As a State Medical Director, you will play a pivotal role in our launch in North Carolina. Working in collaboration with the Health Team and reporting to the State General Manager, you will oversee clinical care delivery, quality assurance, and provider performance, ensuring the delivery of exceptional member care per our care model, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

This position offers a unique opportunity to build an outstanding clinical team and to contribute to the growth and development of Better Life Partners’ services, first in Cumberland and Robeson Counties, and then across communities in North Carolina. As the needs of the organization evolve and membership in North Carolina grows, we will adjust the FTE for this role to match increasing responsibilities and care delivery demands.

What you will do:

Clinical Leadership:
  • Build a diverse team of healthcare professionals across various specialties.
  • Provide medical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to providers and counselors.
  • Collaborate with specialty leads and department heads to establish and maintain high standards of clinical care.
  • Foster an environment of continuous learning, professional development, and clinical excellence.
Clinical Care Delivery:
  • Provide direct clinical care. This includes care delivery in our SUD programs as well as in our Primary Care programs.
  • Provide supervision to a team of advanced practice providers delivering the SUD and Primary Care program.
Provider Performance Management:
  • Evaluate and monitor provider performance, including clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and adherence to best practices.
  • Provide regular feedback, coaching, and support to providers, facilitating their professional growth and development.
Strategic Planning and Execution:
  • Contribute to the development and execution of strategic initiatives to drive growth and operational efficiency within the state.
  • Collaborate with regional leadership and other stakeholders to align clinical operations with organizational goals.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
  • Work closely with other leaders, including Nursing Directors, Operations Managers, and Administrative teams, to ensure seamless coordination of care and efficient practice operations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners.
Regulatory Compliance:
  • Stay informed about relevant healthcare laws, regulations, and accreditation standards to ensure compliance within the state(s).
  • Work with legal and compliance teams to address any issues related to regulatory compliance.

You are a good fit if you have:

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification in a relevant specialty (Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Addiction Medicine, or Psychiatry.
  • Active and unrestricted medical license in North Carolina and willingness to be licensed in all states in which Better Life Partners operates.
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical practice experience, with 3 years of leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare administration, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of North Carolina communities and their needs
  • A focus on harm reduction and compassionate care

Hybrid position requirements:

  • Must be in commutable distance of Cumberland and Robeson Counties in North Carolina
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be willing to travel locally within the communities we serve.
  • Must have internet service with minimum upload/download ability.
  • The company will provide equipment (laptop, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and headset) plus a remote work stipend.
  • Must have a quiet space to speak to members with minimal background noise.
  • Must understand the importance of protected health information and ensure any data/information is not visible to others.
This is a full-time, exempt position. The starting salary range for this position is $224,000 - $298,000 annually equity benefits. The final compensation package is influenced by various factors such as experience, education, degrees earned, market data, and business requirements.
