POSITION PURPOSE

Delivery Manager will be responsible for the management and operation of the Delivery Department through the oversite of safe delivery vehicles and efficient delivery of Beverage South Company’s products to both on and off premise accounts. Directly manages the delivery supervisors while working with the sales and merchandising personnel in an effort to provide superior customer service and retail execution.

Expected to enforce all standards as set forth in Beverage South Company Employee Handbook.

Nature and Scope

The Delivery Manager reports directly to the General Sales Manager. This position is responsible for maximizing customer service by overseeing prompt, efficient and accurate delivery procedures. The DM must also assure quality standards are maintained by each delivery driver ensuring products are properly rotated during every market delivery while executing general market delivery standards. The DM will be responsible for maintaining the fleet of delivery vehicles. This position will oversee all ODOT requirements, fleet maintenance and fleet maintenance records.

It is critical this position work in a safe and courteous manner at all times and follows all local, state and federal laws regarding the sale and delivery of alcoholic beverages.

Performance is measured by achievement of daily work schedule, rotation of products, retail standards, quality of work performed, safety record and overall satisfaction of both internal (sales representatives) and external customers (retailers).

Knowledge and Experience

This position requires 7-10 years of management experience. An emphasis on delivery operations or a similar environment is preferred. This position requires a Class-A commercial driver’s license and a safe driving record. Must be knowledgeable on trucks and truck maintenance. Must have good organizational and prioritization skills. Good oral communication skills required, as well as, the ability develop employee relations and rapport. Must be physically capable of frequent lifting, bending, and turning. Must live within the delivery footprint of the working facility.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible, Manages and Directs the daily functions of the Delivery Department for Macon Operations
  • Responsible for the delivery fleet, maintenance schedules, and ensures the delivery fleet is in a safe working state 100% of the time. Responsible for reviewing driver pre trip logs for issues and removes and reassigns vehicles as needed.
  • Responsible for reviewing Samsara and coaching drivers through supervisors on incidents and on non-compliance of standards. Manages the monthly, quarterly and annual safety bonus and reports to Regional Director and Regional Operations Director the reports for payout.
  • Works with routing to determine and deploy overflow routes as needed
  • Completes analysis of the scheduled routing to ensure the drivers can complete their routes in a timely manner without jeopardizing rotation, customer service or quality of work. Evaluates workload on a daily basis to make sure the driver has the support needed for the route.
  • Works through Delivery Supervisors to ensure proper Beverage South delivery methods and accountability is established for the below delivery functions:
  • Safe and courteous operation of company vehicles
    • How to maintain trucks in complete working order
    • How to report any maintenance issues
    • How to report all accidents to supervisor immediately and accurately complete accident information sheet.
    • How to conduct pre-trip inspection of vehicle as required by the Department of Transportation.
    • How to Drive in a safe manner and treat all equipment with respect.
    • Ensures all delivery drivers maintain a professional attitude and appearance. Requires the drivers to wear of the company uniform and well-groomed at all times.
  • Responsible for all delivery drivers daily to ensure all loads all are delivered to the accounts, rotation, back stock, check in and displays are executed to Beverage South standards and drivers maintain a clean and groomed appearance and in Beverage South uniforms.
    • Check-in by itemized detail on invoice against delivered products.
    • Face the front of cooler/shelves – repair damage & fill six packs.
    • Check package dates and rotate your various product locations.
    • Stock the selling shelf, back stock and display stock.
    • Check price parity – ours vs. competitor on like packages.
    • Check for out-of-stocks – alert salesman if any.
    • Pick up after yourself, break down and dispose of all cardboard.
    • Write down any comments, questions or notes the retailer may have.
    • Show respect and thank the retailer.

Ensures proper training through delivery supervisors that all new driving candidates are properly trained and work with all CDL permit holders to pass CDL tests.

Ensure training on all equipment used by the driver and proper safety techniques. This includes proper use of hand trucks and electric pallet jacks. Included is the proper lifting techniques to prevent injuries. Included in this is kegs, etc.

Ensure training for all drivers on the end of day process of unloading trucks, how to care for breakage, where to put empties, how to check in with warehouse, return product to stock and how to tie out the monies. Clean out the truck of all garbage.

  • Review all upcoming vacations and perform delivery route when a driver is on vacation. This will require knowledge in all routes and delivery sequence.
  • Maintains a driver pool by preparing additional employees in the organization on getting their CDL’s. Coordinates the driving and scheduling of CDL testing.
  • Coordinates and enforces effective internal execution by communicating regularly with co-workers (sales management and sales representatives). This is done in an effort to foster teamwork, ultimately resulting in superior customer service and retail execution.

Conduct Drivers meetings on a weekly basis to cover safety topics.

  • Complete monthly inspections of all delivery vehicles.
  • Work with all direct reports to complete all Driver evaluations and address any performance issues.
  • Maintains all other administrative duties and documentation to include; status change form, absences, vacations and scheduling vacations, first injury report, and performance documentation.
