SUMMARY: 

The school social worker is an integral link between school, home, and community in helping students achieve academic success. They work with children, parents, teachers, school administrators and the wider community to support the mental and emotional health needs of students and their families. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO HERE: 

The Social Worker has primary responsibility for the comprehensive delivery of coordinated social work services to CCCBSD students and their families - as such will provide the following: 

  1. Student Services Provider 
  2. As a Student Service Provider, the Social Worker works with members of the learning community to identify and support the mental health of all students. 
  3. The Social Worker maximizes the performance and effectiveness of the schools by: 
  4. Offering counseling and referral services to students and families necessary for their academic, personal, emotional, and social development. 
  5. Offering individual and group counseling activities to ensure the well-being of all students and families. 

iii. In collaboration with other team members, will conduct student mental health assessments, as appropriate. 

  1. Offering crisis management and support services in collaboration with the educational team, program director and the IEP Team. 
  2. Abiding by professional social work ethics and standards. 
  3. In collaboration with the Transition Specialist, assist students, families and IEP Team with creating plans for post-secondary transitions, including DDS applications, Guardianship process and working with other collateral agencies. 

vii. Providing professional development in mental health preventative care measures. 

viii. Attending required trainings and maintaining appropriate credentials. 

  1. Participating in the development and management of district-wide protocols for crisis intervention. 
  2. Attending student-focused meetings, as requested. 
  3. Community Outreach 
  4. By providing community outreach, the Social Worker works with teachers, administrators, and parents. 
  5. The Social Worker demonstrates his or her role as an essential and equal partner in the educational process by: 
  6. Providing consultation to parents and staff regarding community-based options available for students. 
  7. Providing resources for community mental health services for students. 

iii. Maintaining effective and regular communication with parents and/or guardians regarding the welfare and progress of students. 

  1. Conducting home visits as necessary.
  2. Making referrals as needed to the Massachusetts State Department of Children and Families regarding issues of child abuse and/or neglect, and to coordinate DCF contact/interviews with students in school. 
  3. Keeping accurate records regarding referrals and communication with the Massachusetts State Department of Children and Families. 

vii. Maintaining ongoing communication as needed with the appropriate community agencies, including the Massachusetts Department Children and Families local and statewide social service agencies, private clinical practitioners, local hospitals, and other placements/programs. 3. IEP Team Member 

  1. As an IEP Team Member, the Social Worker ensures that the services meet the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) as set forth in the DESE regulations and provides expertise in the implementation of plan driven social work services by: 
  2. Attending IEP meetings as requested. 
  3. Managing and maintaining records regarding student services. 

iii. Assisting the IEP Team with goal development based on assessment results. 

  1. Completing classroom observations and providing clinical feedback. 
  2. Collaborating with IEP Team members to provide services to students in a variety of therapeutic models. 
  3. Providing services to students. 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE TABLE: 

  • Must have a Master’s Degree in Social Work and a LCSW.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working in the field of social work.
  • Must have experience with students with special needs.
  • Ability to communicate in a highly effective manner, ASL proficiency preferred.. 
  • Ability to understand, follow and deliver safety policy and procedures. 
  • Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children. 
  • Ability to provide direct staff supervision, leadership, and role modeling for all classroom personnel. ? Ability to provide a creative and active learning setting for all children that encourages healthy growth. ? Ability to receive professional direction, learn new skills, and work in a team setting. 

OTHER IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW

  • All candidates must participate in ASL classes on a regular basis, which are provided by CCCBSD. ? Successful candidates will present appropriate certifications as required by the state. 
  • Work involves moderate exposure to a variety of safety elements, including moderate physical activity, student behavior, student hygiene, limited food preparation, and G-Tube feedings. 
  • The environment may require physically assisting students with a weight, up to and in excess of 40 pounds ? Work environment may involve operation of school vehicles in the transportation of students to and from community settings.
