We're seeking a dynamic and versatile communications professional to lead our strategic communications, PR, and content initiatives at Beyond Type 1, an organization changing what it means to live with diabetes. This role combines high-level communications strategy with hands-on content development, requiring a unique blend of strategic thinking and creative execution.
Reports to: SVP of Marketing
Key Responsibilities:
Communications & PR Strategy
  • Develop and implement comprehensive communications and PR strategies that elevate Beyond Type 1's brand and market positioning
  • Create and refine corporate messaging architecture and materials to align with organizational milestones and initiatives
  • Craft compelling narratives that showcase our work, community impact, and the lived experiences of individuals with type 1 and type 2 diabetes
  • Develop strategies to effectively communicate the impact of our work, using data and storytelling to create awareness and drive engagement
  • Identify and amplify uplifting stories from within our community to increase understanding of the challenges faced by those living with diabetes
  • Lead crisis communications efforts, serving as the primary point of contact for incident management
  • Identify and secure top-tier media coverage, awards, and speaking engagements
  • Collaborate with PR agencies to maximize impact and results
Content Strategy
  • Lead the development of a sophisticated, comprehensive content strategy that spans all digital channels
  • Spearhead cross-functional team collaboration to align on content strategy, fostering a culture of creativity and innovation
  • Identify and capitalize on timely events and relevant industry topics to inform content creation
  • Bring a fresh, creative perspective to content strategy development, introducing new ideas and approaches
  • Guide the team in creating engaging, multi-format content (articles, videos, infographics, etc.) aligned with organizational goals and target audiences
  • While not primarily responsible for content creation, be prepared to contribute high-quality writing when needed
  • Analyze content performance across channels and optimize strategies based on data-driven insights
  • Stay abreast of digital content trends and best practices, continuously evolving our approach for maximum impact
Thought Leadership
  • Identify key themes and topics for thought leadership initiatives
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and executives to develop distinctive narratives
  • Secure opportunities for executive visibility in industry publications and events Develop innovative approaches to showcase the organization's impact through data-driven narratives and compelling storytelling
  • Create a framework for identifying, collecting, and sharing powerful stories from the type 1 and type 2 diabetes communities
  • Ensure that community voices are authentically represented in all communications efforts
  • Develop and execute internal communications plans to keep staff, Board of Directors, partners, and partners informed
  • Lead the creation of "corporate momentum" reports and the organization's Annual Report
  • Ensure consistent messaging across all internal and external communications
Qualifications:
  • 8 years of experience in external communications (PR, corporate communications, public affairs, or media relations)
  • Proven track record in developing sophisticated communication strategies for PR coverage and strategic narrative development
  • Deep expertise in content marketing and cross-channel multimedia content production
  • Experience in developing corporate messaging architecture and aligning communications with brand initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex impact data into compelling narratives
  • Strong understanding of community-centric storytelling and its role in awareness campaigns
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills across various formats and channels
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience in crisis communications management
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced environments and work effectively in small teams
