Senior Production Planner:Position Overview:The Senior Production Planning role involves planning, scheduling, execution and managing the supply base as it applies to production parts ordering, follow-up, and timeliness of deliveries to meet customer requirements. The Production Planner is responsible for setting-up and executing the MRP system to meet KPI requirements such as On-Time Supplier Delivery, internal department Build to Schedules, and Customer On-Time Delivery. The Production Planner proactively communicates potential production disruptions and productivity problems to the Operations, Sales and Management teams.
The Production Planner must possess strong leadership skills, organizational skills, strategic thinking, and working knowledge of MRP, scheduling & planning processes as well as capacity planning and forecasting. This role is critical to ensure the organization can efficiently and cost-effectively meet and aligned to overall business objectives.
Job Responsibilities:Leadership and Management:
  • Lead the production planning activity including MRP set-up, execution and planning for the production and mold businesses to meet external customer needs as well as internal delivery and productivity requirements.
  • Mentor, train and develop other planners to ensure they effectively execute production planning strategies.
Production Planning Strategy:
  • Implement production planning strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Evaluate and enhance production planning policies and procedures to ensure efficiency and compliance.
  • Set-up and execute an MRP system across the production and mold businesses to meet customer timing.
Vendor Management:
  • Maintain supplier lead times and current performance of suppliers to ensure the MRP system is effective.
  • Establish good communications and relationships with key suppliers.
  • Create a Supplier Scorecard to monitor suppliers and provide feedback to suppliers.
Contract Negotiation:
  • Participate in negotiations with suppliers to ensure delivery requirements are understood.
Cost Management:
  • Implement cost-effective measures and initiatives to achieve cost savings.
  • Analyze market trends and conditions to make informed planning decisions and adjust plans accordingly.
Risk Management:
  • Assess, communicate, and manage risks associated with supplier and industry activities.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies with the support of the management team.
Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Stay abreast of changes in regulations and update production planning processes accordingly.
Process Improvement:
  • Continuously evaluate and improve the planning processes for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Implement best practices to streamline the production planning workflow and cost basis of the products.
Budget Management:
  • Support and meet the production planning budget and year-over-year cost savings.
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure adherence to budgetary constraints.
Collaboration:
  • Primary contact for Sales team to be notified of Order Status and any issues with customer requirements.
  • Conduct ad-hoc and weekly updates for order status to the Sales team to ensure effective customer service.
  • Collaborate with internal departments including finance, operations, sales and quality to align production planning activities with overall business objectives.
Performance Metrics:
  • Drive and meet key performance indicators (KPIs) such as On-Time Delivery and Build to Schedule.
  • Regularly assess and report on the performance of the KPIs.
Market Research:
  • Stay informed about market trends, supplier capabilities, and emerging technologies.
  • Learn and understand the industry to identify new opportunities and potential risks.
Sustainability:
  • Integrate sustainable and ethical sourcing practices into the procurement process.
  • Evaluate and review suppliers’ commitment to environmental and social responsibility.
Communication Skills:
  • Effectively communicate with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Participate in procurement strategies and reviews to senior management.
Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, or related field (preferred).
  • Post-secondary education and degree is desired.
  • Proven experience (5 years) in production planning roles.
  • Strong track record of meeting and exceeding targets.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Mentor other planners in the proper procedures for all purchasing and purchasing strategies.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to analyze market trends and develop actionable plans.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Independent; self-motivated/confident, team-orientated, can follow instructions, good attendance, leadership ability, decision maker, meet deadline.
  • MRP systems – active use, set-up and development of MRP tools is required.
  • Understanding of tools required to produce product.
  • Work accurately, with attention to detail, and be able to detect defects.
  • PC Skills; Word, Excel, Email, Internet, networking awareness
Abilities:
  • Speak, read, and write in the English language.
  • Operate Office Machines & Equipment.
