Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Missouri is Hiring a Community Engagement Specialist Near Columbia, MO

Position Purpose:

This position drives recruitment initiatives to ensure an on-going supply of targeted volunteer candidates (Bigs) are available to support agency programs. Responsible for driving organizational strategic growth by ensuring the agency’s outreach efforts properly communicate the agency’s image, mission, values, and advocacy for children and youth throughout the service area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Communicate BBBSCMO vision, mission, and values to the public, potential volunteers, and potential stakeholders.

Develop and carry out a volunteer recruitment strategy, including strategies that target special populations designated in the agency’s strategic plan.

Coordinate an outreach program such as tabling at or presenting to (or arranging for other staff or board members to present) various community groups to recruit volunteers and donors .

Complete all steps in Big enrollment process (interview, reference checks, background checks, public domain search, pre-match training, assessment, and data entry).

Track and evaluate results of recruitment and outreach efforts.

Provide ongoing training opportunities for Bigs.

Actively participate in agency meetings and educate staff on recruitment techniques.

Maintain an understanding of community problems and resources.

Participate in agency events and perform additional tasks assigned by the Program Manager and/or the Executive Director

Present self professionally. Dress is casual/professional.

Other duties as assigned.

Education and Related Work Experience:

Education Level: Bachelor’s degree in social work, marketing, management, public administration or related field.

Work Experience: 2-3 years in marketing, volunteer recruitment or related work. Experience in marketing preferred. Experience working with diverse populations.

Skills and Knowledge:

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Proven track record of recruiting volunteers

Produce agency PowerPoint presentations as deemed necessary

Detail-oriented, organized self-starter; able to prioritize and perform multiple tasks with varying levels of urgency to meet deadlines with no loss in accuracy

Able to work flexible schedules as necessary to support special events and projects to include some evenings and weekends.

Manages consistent messaging, language internally to provide consistency and a uniformity for BBBS

Ability to relate well in diverse environments, maintain confidentiality, collaborate with others, use time effectively, and be detail focused.

Travel

Must have automobile, valid driver’s license, and meet state required automobile insurance minimums

Travel as required, typically within state of Missouri.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements

Routine office environment. Flexible schedule to meet customer and office needs including some evenings and weekends. Travel required, as stated above. Physical demands as able.
