Budget Title: Staff Associate (SL-4)

Salary: $70,000 - $80,000

The Graduate School seeks a creative and forward-looking individual to serve as the primary coordinator of activities in the new Office of Professional Development and Postdoctoral Affairs. Responsibilities will include preparing a portfolio of workshops and seminars that will substantially enrich the professional development of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows; improving graduate student transition, success rates, and time-to-degree; identifying creative ways to strengthen career-directed skills and abilities, including written and speaking communication skills, leadership, and management skills tailored to individuals earning graduate degrees; working collaboratively with other agencies on campus to develop micro-credential and certificate programs; developing a workshop series to support ethics training requirements by federal and private agencies; partnering with departments and programs to support the development and submission of external fellowships, training grants, and other program-oriented proposals that can raise the prominence of doctoral and postdoctoral training opportunities at Binghamton University. The successful applicant should have outstanding communication skills, the ability to work both independently and in teams to achieve goals/deadlines, and the willingness to engage the national and international discourse on the future of doctoral and postdoctoral education.

Duties include:

  • Preparing a portfolio of workshops and seminars that will substantially enrich the professional development of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows
  • Improving graduate student transition, success rates, and time-to-degree
  • Identifying creative ways to strengthen career-directed skills and abilities, including written and speaking communication skills, leadership, and management skills tailor to individuals earning graduate degrees

Job Requirements:
  • Master's Degree
  • One to three years of related experience with proven office administration and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and handle confidential matters with tact and discretion
  • Must be highly motivated and detail oriented with the flexibility to multi-task and to change direction as needed; able to work well under pressure, problem solve, think outside the box, and have a willingness and ability to assume initiative for ongoing and future projects
  • Must be personable and demonstrate strengths in interpersonal relationships and the ability to collaborate and communicate complex materials effectively with a diverse group of individuals including students, faculty, staff, senior administrators, community and industry partners, donors, and visitors
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills, a keen attention to detail in all written work, technical expertise in business management tools including spreadsheets, word processing, calendar tools, presentation software, including demonstrated capacity for managing a range of social media platforms, and excellent time management

Preferred:

  • PhD or similar doctoral degree (i.e. EdD)
  • Two years of professional experience post-degree
  • Professional experience in a college or university setting
