BioMADE is Hiring a Program Director - Education & Workforce Development Near Minneapolis, MN

Description

The Program Director is responsible for supporting and advising BioMADE’s Head of Programs while leading the Education and Workforce Development (EWD) team. Reporting to the Head of Programs, the Program Director will provide consistency and process development, implement the mechanics of process execution and reporting, and manage process flow. The Program Director will be responsible for the day-to-day management of personnel, workloads, reporting and deliverables, and business tools. This position will work closely with the Operations and Finance Team to ensure deadlines and compliance are met. The Program Director will work closely with BioMADE’s government sponsors. This position is available in Emeryville, California or Minneapolis, Minnesota location.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advises the Head of Programs on EWD best practices and leads direction for the Institute.
  • Manage a group of highly skilled program managers, project specialists and support staff, ensuring ownership of assigned projects through the project lifecycle including, workload, deliverables, reporting and overall job performance.
  • Implement the mechanics of project execution using business tools. Ensure tools, including Salesforce, are utilized effectively.
  • Ensure that process management principles are consistently applied.
  • Work with the other program leaders (Technology, 4S, Data, Special Projects) to drive a cohesive Program Team.
  • Work with Head of Programs to identify themes and topical areas for committee and subcommittee work, Project Calls, ADPs, workshops, member outreach and recruitment, etc.
  • Oversee funding calls and external research, working with Head of Programs and Program team, including best practices for training and credential development.
  • Participate in the selection process for new Program Managers and support staff and advise on the expertise and level required for new hires.
  • Ensure reporting requirements are met, including (but not limited to) weekly updates, quarterly reviews, bi-annual and annual reports, and ad hoc requests, and that they are formatted in the requested manner.
  • Ensure project deadlines are met and prepare and report on contingency plans when necessary.
  • Manage a portfolio of current projects, oversee assigned direct reports’ projects, and plan for future efforts as workloads require.
  • Participate in Committee and Subcommittee work, including annual documentation updates.
  • Develop close collaboration with the Operations and Finance teams.
  • Work with the government team to ensure projects meet deadlines and deliverables.
  • Work with government teams to support workshops, conferences, and technical exchanges.
  • Write and prepare presentations for members, business partners, and government entities as assigned.
  • Research and identify business development opportunities, and down select opportunities with leadership to bring new business to BioMADE annually.
  • Travel up to 30% of the time in the execution of job responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned or as they become apparent.

Requirements

  • Must possess a Master’s degree or PhD and 10 years of relevant professional experience or Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Education professional experience in the fields of biotechnology or bioindustrial manufacturing, particularly focused on education and/or workforce development. This may include degrees in, but not limited to, bioengineering, chemical engineering, microbiology, chemistry, or biochemistry.
  • Professional experience in fields that may include experience in education, workforce development, workforce planning, curriculum development, educational outreach activities, program management, and related.
  • Prior experience in managing a group of professionals in the science field including interviewing and selection, staff development, and performance management.
  • Must possess the ability to resolve complex problems and issues, make administrative and procedural decisions and possess sound judgment.
  • Working knowledge and experience with a variety of business tools, such as Salesforce or similar application.
  • Experience in the bioindustrial manufacturing or biotech industry is preferred, and/or with a manufacturing innovation institute or government entity.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills, the ability to prioritize, and attention to detail.
  • Must possess solid public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Must possess a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
