Job Description:

We are looking for a Laboratory Assistant ll (40 hours per week) in our Elmwood Park, NJ location.

Schedule: Wednesday - Sunday 8:30 AM to 5:00PM

The Laboratory Assistant II will assist in the day-to-day operations of the laboratory. The Laboratory Assistant III will perform routine and specialized assignments associated with moderate to high complexity testing and demonstrate proficiency and understanding of the procedures in their respective areas of the laboratory under the directive of the Laboratory Manager. Additional tasks can be assigned at the discretion of management.

Position Responsibilities

Duties may include but are not necessarily limited to the following:

  • Performing sample receiving into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Assist with pre-analytical preparation of specimens (e.g., printing labels, uncap/cap specimen tubes, aliquot specimens, prepare racks, worklists, enter/scan specimens and load automated instruments).
  • Maps, retrieves, discards specimens as needed.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and cleanliness.
  • Assists with temperature logs, centrifuge cleaning, and discarding of biohazard bags as assigned.
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Maintains an up to date working knowledge of all procedures in the department and operations of all instrumentation. Reviews all pertinent SOPMs.
  • Maintain accurate records of laboratory work, including equipment maintenance, Experiment batch reports, and reagent lot assessment forms.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and reagents.
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues and optimize lab processes
  • Adhere to quality control and quality assurance protocols
  • Keep accurate records of experiments, observations, and findings
  • Attend department trainings and meetings and interacts in two way communication to assist lead in process improvement.
  • Train new and exisiting employees when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
  • Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques and equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and protocols accurately
  • Great communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to follow instructions and protocols accurately.
  • 2 or more years of experience in laboratory setting.
  • Trained in all areas of the department.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry skills
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and procedures

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Detail-oriented, a fast and self-motivated learner.
  • Strong Interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Prior experience working in a laboratory setting is preferred, but not required

Physical Demands:

  • Medium work of lifting up to 50 pounds and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Responsible for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects.
