Biospace is Hiring a Process Engineer I, Cell Therapy Process Development Near Seattle, WA

About The RoleSana Biotechnology is growing, and we are hiring new team members who believe in the potential of engineered cells as medicines, who are passionate about delivering the possible to patients, and who lead with the desire to work on novel ideas. As a Process Engineer I, you will report to the Director of Cell Therapy Process Development to support the development of novel allogeneic chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR T) cell manufacturing processes. You will lead the design of multiple unit operations, such as T cell culture and viral transduction, participate in the evaluation of novel technologies, support end-to-end process development studies, and facilitate tech transfers to manufacturing. You will collaborate with teams across Sana sites including Manufacturing Sciences & Technology (MSAT), Analytical Development, and Research.
What You’ll Do
  • Design and execute small- and large-scale cell therapy experiments independently and in a team environment
  • Document all experimental work in an electronic lab notebook
  • Analyze data, present conclusions, and propose process design recommendations to diverse scientific and technical teams
  • Drafts technical documents including development reports, operating procedures, risk assessments, and batch records
What We’re Looking For
  • B.S. in Chemical, Biological, or Biomedical Engineering plus 4 years of experience, or M.S. plus 1-2 years, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • >1 year of experience with mammalian cell culture, with excellent aseptic cell culture technique
  • You can design experiments using the scientific method and hypothesis testing
  • You can critically analyze data, summarize and communicate findings, and write technical documents
  • You can work independently and as part of a small team
  • You are familiar with basic concepts of immunology, as it applies to CAR-T cell therapy
What Will Separate You From The Crowd
  • You contributed to the design of a clinical cell therapy manufacturing process, with experience with one or more of the following unit operations:
    • Primary T cell isolation and culture
    • Viral and non-viral transduction and gene editing
    • Cell washing, harvesting, and cryopreservation
  • You understand and have applied statistical Design-of-Experiments (DoE)
  • You participated in tech transfers to a GMP manufacturing site
  • You are familiar with flow cytometry and/or molecular assay techniques and analysis
  • You are a great scientific communicator
What You Should Know
  • Working safely in-person on a predictable and regular in-person basis is an essential job function for this position, and Sana requires that all individuals working in-person by fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including receipt of a vaccine booster shot if recommended by the CDC
  • This role includes handling of human blood products from healthy donors
  • Occasional after-hours and weekend work is required
  • Approximately 50% of your time is spent in a laboratory environment
  • 5-10% domestic travel is expected
  • The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $100,000 and $125,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience
