Job Summary

You will enhance a data center inventory system that is at the heart of operating, automating, and accounting for much of our client's private cloud. Your work will save countless hours reporting and understanding the state of the data centers, preflighting and validating devices, and caring for our client's assets over their entire financial life cycle. As you work, you will have the support of a tight-knit team as you collaborate with and develop for a wide range of users.

Job Responsibilities

User-informed feature development (80%): Our heaviest users include Data Center Operations (DCOPS), Network Operations (NetOps), Systems Operations (SysOps), and Finance. This role focuses heavily on making it easier for them to query for and update the data they need (whether those updates come from users in our UI or automated agents using our robust API), adding new types of data to our database, and occasionally adding custom reporting. Also included is adding data & APIs to make it easier to automate the process of defining hardware profiles and running software against the hardware to configure and vet it before use and validate it once in use.

• Documentation and Knowledge-Sharing (15%): Document infrastructure architecture, design decisions, and implementation details. Share knowledge and best practices with team members through documentation, presentations, and technical discussions.
• Operations (5%): Our services run on top of Kubernetes. You will be expected to help in ensuring they are running smoothly, including resolving incidents as they arise and adding automated monitoring/metrics as needed.

• 8 years experience programming

• 3 years SQL (joins, group bys, user-driven & highly flexible queries. We use Postgres)
• Experience in integration and end-to-end testing
• Kubernetes experience (e.g. helm, deployments, secrets, longhorn, basic debugging)

Nice to haves

• Data center experience (network fundamentals, IPMI, virtualization, DCIM, netbox)
• Experience with Temporal or Uber Cadence
• Shell scripting, Python
