Full-time TVI (Teacher of the Visually Impaired)

Location: Phoenix, AZ

Blazer Jobs is actively seeking an experienced and dedicated Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to join our team in Phoenix, AZ. This is a full-time, school-based position, requiring adherence to all local and state regulations. Candidates with previous experience working with special education students and their families are highly preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Planning and Delivery: Develop and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs) for visually impaired students, incorporating appropriate accommodations and modifications. Deliver effective instruction in accordance with student needs, utilizing a variety of teaching strategies and materials.

  • Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Conduct ongoing assessments to evaluate student progress and adjust instructional strategies as necessary. Collaborate with educational team members to develop appropriate goals and objectives for students.

  • Braille Instruction: Provide instruction in Braille literacy, including reading, writing, and tactile graphics, to students who are blind or visually impaired. Utilize Braille materials and technology to enhance learning opportunities.

  • Assistive Technology Support: Assess student needs for assistive technology devices and provide training in their use. Advocate for access to necessary technology and support students in utilizing technology to access educational materials and participate fully in the classroom.

  • Collaboration and Consultation: Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, other special education staff, related service providers, and families to support the educational needs of visually impaired students. Provide consultation and training to school staff on strategies for supporting students with visual impairments in the classroom.

  • Family Engagement: Foster positive relationships with families of visually impaired students, providing support, resources, and guidance as needed. Collaborate with families to develop effective home-school partnerships that promote student success.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Education or related field
  • Valid Arizona teaching certification with endorsement in Visual Impairment
  • Previous experience working with visually impaired students preferred
  • Knowledge of Braille literacy and assistive technology
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
