Bloom Academy is Hiring a Parent University Coordinator Near Houston, TX

Bloom Academy Charter School exists to provide a high quality, rigorous, and joyful educational experience to students in grades kindergarten to fifth grade. We are a new and independent school seeking to add deeply mission aligned, smart, hardworking, and emotionally intelligent people to our founding staff. We opened August 2019 with a cohort of kindergarten and first graders, and will now serve scholars in grades K-5 the 24-25 school year.

The Parent University Coordinator will play an integral role in cultivating community relationships that result in addressing the training needs of our Parents, Families, and Staff. They will also be responsible for facilitating and maintaining open communication between the SEL department and outside organizational stakeholders.

The Bloom Academy Parent University Coordinator (PUC)

The Parent University Coordinator (PUC) is responsible for cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with universities, local organizations, agencies and business and supporting our parents, families, and staff by addressing training and personnel needs. The PUC will have the following key responsibilities:

Responsibilities

Community Outreach and Engagement

  • Cultivate partnerships with local organizations, universities, agencies, and businesses to enhance resources and support for SEL initiatives.
  • Procure and Implement training schedules for parents, families, and staff members.
  • Partner with local community organizations, colleges, and programs to connect parents with continuing education opportunities (GED, certification, degree, etc).
  • Collaborate with campus staff and other supportive personnel in implementing behavior interventions on campus and other campus requested supports.
  • Make home visits upon request and/or as appropriate, based on collaboration with campus/district staff and in accordance with department guidelines
  • Plan, promote, and implement departmental resource activities and events like clothing and food drives, meet the department events, parent workshops, etc.
  • Oversee the implementation of Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meetings and training with support from departmental team members.
  • Source and coordinate student interns from local universities to further support departmental initiatives.

Administrative Task

  • Collect data and maintain an accurate record of services and goods rendered for analysis and compliance with grant and school standards.
  • Maintain accurate contact and vendor logs, paperwork associated with university internship criteria.
  • Create newsletter and other promotional material that showcases departmental happenings.
  • Respond to digital and phone correspondence from families, staff, and other stakeholders within 48 hours.

Other Duties Assigned

  • Classroom and testing support
  • Emergency management support
  • Duties assigned by direct supervisor

Shift and Schedule

  • Monday – Friday, 9am – 6pm
  • Weekends and Some Evenings As Needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree social work, psychology, education, or related field
  • One year of relevant experience in social services or education.
  • Deep alignment with the school's mission and core values.
  • Comfort with public speaking and being a departmental spokesperson in the community.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including some weekends.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance as required by law and comfort transporting students and families.
  • A staunch belief that all students regardless of race or socio-economic status can achieve at high levels and be positive contributors to their communities.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Open and receptive to feedback about performance and self-reflective about ways to improve.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs Canva and social media platforms (Instagram, ClassDojo & Facebook).
  • Knowledge of office equipment and services including computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, phones, and software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build and maintain positive rapport with all school stakeholders on and off campus.
  • Family and student centered strengths based perspective, can-do, team first, “glass half full” attitude. Innovative, thoughtful, question-asking intellect. Always looking for ways to do things better, faster, in a more user-friendly fashion. Eager to contribute to an intellectual environment in which the best idea always wins.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, public relations and/or other related fields; A combination of Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of experience in the social service, public relations or education field.
  • Facilitation and training experience
  • Previous Public relations, outreach/engagement experience preferred
  • Experience in an urban school setting as a classroom teacher or direct classroom support
  • Entrepreneurial minded
