JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Classroom Paraprofessional

QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications as required by the by the Illinois State Board of Education.

PERSONAL: Must have a command of the English language, good interpersonal skills, initiative, and the willingness to work with students and teachers. Must be able to perform set up procedures, carry out tasks, and solve problems with minimal consultation with, or directions from administrator in charge.

REPORTS TO: Administrator in charge

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assist with classroom instruction in the content areas as assigned by teacher(s).

2. Provide one-on-one and/or small group tutoring to students.

3. Assist and support the teacher(s) in carrying out class rules and expectations students that maintain order and discipline in the learning environment.

4. Assist with grading papers and keeping records to assist the teachers.

5. Assist with covering the class in case the teacher has an emergency, or is involved in assisting another student and temporarily out of the classroom.

6. Work with students in the mainstream to support them with special learning tasks.

7. Supplement instructional classroom programming, under the direction of the teacher.

8. Escort, assist and supervise students in the hallways, lunchroom, locker rooms, washroom, drinking fountains and during school assemblies.

9. Assist with proctoring standardized tests.

10. Assist classroom teacher with preparing and organizing instructional materials.

11. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
