This class performs general, routine custodial, cleaning, and trash removal duties in assigned work areas.
Examples of Duties
Performs a variety of custodial duties which includes: cleaning offices, lounges, workrooms, libraries, holding cells, restrooms, entryways, stairwells, and hallways; sweeping floors; dusting; mopping, buffing, sweeping, and vacuuming floors; cleaning windows; cleaning and sanitizing sinks, counters, shower areas, toilets, and water fountains; cleaning and sanitizing medical areas; replenishing toilet paper, towels, and soap; washing walls, baseboards, doors, and handles; cleaning carpet; and/or, performing other related activities.
Participates in general maintenance activities, including debris removal, clean-up, and materials handling.
Secures doors and windows.
Collects and disposes of trash located in and outside of facilities.
Checks supplies inventory and notifies appropriate individuals when inventory is low or depleted; restocks supplies and/or chemicals.
May assist with landscape activities, which may include mowing lawns and trimming shrubbery utilizing applicable hand and power tools.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Typical Qualifications
Training and Experience (positions in this class typically require):
High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and up to one year of custodial work experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licensing Requirements (positions in this class typically require):

Knowledge (position requirements at entry):
Basic cleaning techniques;·
Chemicals and chemical mixtures;·
Safety and security procedures;·
Basic mathematics.
Skills (position requirements at entry):
Cleaning and sanitizing offices, restrooms, hallways, and other facilities;·
Proper handling of chemicals;·
Using custodial equipment such as vacuums and buffers;·
Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, staff, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts and chemicals.
