Blue Collar Workforce Alliance is Hiring an Economic Research Assistant Near Cincinnati, OH

Blue Collar Workforce Alliance (BCWA)

Economic Research Assistant

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Research Assistant will have the responsibility for completing projects and assignments on the advocacy team for emergent economic research requests. Typical deliverable development involves collecting data for reports and policy briefs, researching existing and new economic policies, and conducting research on votes and policy positions of politicians. This position will report to the Research Manager of the Blue Collar Workforce Alliance, a partner of the Charles L. Shor Foundation.

About the Blue Collar Workforce Alliance

The Blue Collar Workforce Alliance (BCWA) is a new and non-partisan organization. Its focus is to advocate for policies, projects, and political candidates to fix the decreasing prosperity of American families, the decline of US manufacturing, and the ongoing US trade deficits. As a research assistant with the Blue Collar Workforce Alliance, you will be a key component of our economic team that advocates with politicians, as well as business and policy leaders, to bring more individuals and families into the middle class. The focus of BCWA is on the following issues:

  • The decline in income and opportunity for the American middle and lower classes.
  • The effect our global competitors have had on the US Middle Class.
  • How the fall in US manufacturing has hurt economic growth and our middle class.
  • Causes and policies impacting large US trade deficits.
  • Wages & standards of living in the US & our foreign competitors.

BCWA is the economic and political advocacy branch of the Charles L. Shor Foundation, whose founder, Charlie Shor, is a retired Executive who employed over 2,500 across North America. While BCWA is permitted to endorse candidates and partake in other political advocacy activities, it is our practice to support candidates of any political affiliation whose goals, values, and initiatives align with those of BCWA. As such, the research assistant is expected to conduct their work in a way that supports the goals of BCWA without being biased by political affiliations. The goal is to provide easy to understand information based on professional research to influence policy, both locally and nationally.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Research Assistant will report to the Research Manager of BCWA and be responsible for assisting the research team to produce organizational deliverables for its advocacy work. Specifically, the responsibilities of the position are the following:

  • Produce materials, including policy papers and data reports, to support the advocacy initiatives of BCWA.
  • Assist in data collection to support web site and social networking development.
  • Present at meetings, conferences, and public forums to communicate our mission and initiate action in other organizations, at the request of the Research Manager.
  • Provide feedback to the director based on data collection and research activities.
  • Attend required training on concepts of economics and data analysis.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

The ideal candidate will be skilled in economic data collection and research with an understanding of how economies are influenced by markets, governments, the financial system, and people. The specific qualifications are:

  • Desire to help lift more families and individuals into the middle class, increase manufacturing jobs in the U.S., and restore balanced trade.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is preferred. Highly qualified associate degree candidates may be considered.
  • An understanding of economics, markets, supply and demand.
  • Experience may be considered equivalent if experience demonstrated increased depth and breadth of responsibility.
  • Ability to work with numbers and data sets in Excel and perform basic economic transformations of data. Experience in statistics or econometrics is a plus.
  • Use of data and statistical packages, such as SAS, R, and SQL, is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, with the ability to use Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, including creating compelling charts, graphs, and documents.
