Overview

Department Overview

The Application Development division develops, implements, and supports information technology solutions that are either internally developed or purchased from a third party vendor. These applications and systems provide solutions to corporate data processing and information needs. The incumbent manages the efforts of direct reports, providing analysis and project management direction, and reviews the applications and systems developed to ensure they meet requirements of the organization. The incumbent works closely with managers and associates throughout the corporation in order to facilitate understanding of their information system needs.

Primary Responsibilities

The incumbent analyzes designs, develops, documents, and implements new software applications and maintains and supports existing applications to provide information technology solutions for the organization.

The incumbent determines how software applications should be designed and implemented considering system and time limitations and business needs. The incumbent determines the proper platform, data structures and programming languages to be used that will best serve the business in both the short and long term. Determine readiness of assigned tasks and tasks performed by others as relates to the progression of projects through development life cycle and in accordance with Application Development Standards.

Summary of Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of IT experience; or 3 years of programming experience
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience using programming languages, platforms, and data structures
  • Advanced analytical thinking skills with experience in identifying, scrutinizing, improving, and streamlining complex work processes
  • Experience in identifying, analyzing, and solving business problems to improve work processes
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience applying application software development methodologies
  • Advanced research, decision-making and judgment skills
  • Advanced problem solving skills
  • Experience working independently
  • Experience demonstrating flexibility and adaptability with work processes
  • Experience communicating effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Experience working with others in a professional manner to achieve a common goal
  • Experience in a position requiring technical writing, editing, and proofreading
  • Experience effectively prioritizing and juggling multiple concurrent projects
  • Experience writing and creating queries is preferred
  • Experience relating to others, inspiring others to participate, and mitigating conflict is preferred
  • Experience applying project management and program management is preferred
  • Experience motivating, mobilizing, and coaching associates/peers is preferred
  • Healthcare industry programming experience especially prior experience working at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama strongly preferred
  • Experience in the following technologies is strongly preferred: SQL; Java; JavaScript; Spring MVC

Work Location

The work location for this position will be full-time remote. This position will be based in Alabama.
