The Coding Analyst position reviews national coding guidelines for updating and maintaining our internal coding application tool (Coding Rules Engine), resolves claim processing inquiries received through coding pends, and supports implementation of new, revised and deleted procedure and diagnosis codes maintained by ADA (Dental), CMS (ICD-10 and HCPCS) and AMA (CPT4) national organizations. The Coding Analyst will support medical record documentation review and perform medical drug formulary maintenance. The Coding Analyst will also assist with research for developing and updating coding policies, and provide coding and implementation recommendations for drug and medical policies. Job-Specific Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree is required or equivalent experience in medical coding
Must be a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or be a certified professional or hospital coder (CPC or CCS-P, COC, CIC, etc.).
Must have at least 2 years of physician or hospital based coding experience. Multi-specialty coding experience is preferred. Risk Adjustment experience is a plus.
Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
Must have demonstrated abilities to work as a team player.
Excellent research and analytical skills are required.
A working knowledge of Word, Excel and/or other computer applications is required.
Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of medical procedures and medical terminology.
