QUALITY TECHNICIAN JOB DESCRIPTION

This position will be responsible for product/process verification activities on the manufacturing floor and provide final QC release of all produced parts during the shift. This includes verifying parts are manufactured according to specifications and work instructions. This position is first shift and will report to the Quality Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Ensure products are compliant to released/approved work instructions. Communicate part compliance problems to the Shift Supervisor and the Quality Manager.
  • Provide QC oversight for all manufacturing activities performed during the assigned shift.
  • Ability to coach press operators when needed regarding quality of product.
  • Ability to communicate properly and effectively.
  • Provide additional investigative information when needed for Customer Complaints, CAPA’s, Deviations and/or non-conformances.
  • Ability to determine good vs bad parts based upon specification.
  • Performs final QC release of product prior to shipment.
  • Participate, as needed, in quality improvement projects.
  • Lead or assist in investigation and containment when safety issues are found.
  • Problem solving utilizing scientific problem-solving methods including, but not limited to: 5 Whys, FMEA, Fishbone, 8D.
  • Participate in Management and Process Improvement meetings as assigned.
  • Apply statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate current state and recommend improvements.
  • Develop Part Work Instructions for the manufacturing floor.
  • Ability to collect inspections results in excel and develop pivot tables for analysis.
  • Ability to confidently provide leadership on the floor and make final acceptance decisions.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Quality Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS: 
 To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Ability to use basic measuring tools and test equipment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of Quality tools such as ASQ sampling, Gage R & R, metrology tools and techniques, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Ability to prioritize work, make decisions independently, and lead others to the completion of assigned tasks.
  • Ability to read and understand existing Quality Management System Standard Operating Procedures and communicate to others as needed.
  • Ability to work in a cooperative and team-oriented environment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

  • High school diploma / 2 years of college or technical training in quality, or 5 years of quality related employment in a manufacturing environment.
  • American Society for Quality Certifications: Certified Quality Technician is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems requirements of ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and 21 CFR Part 820.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software packages, Word, Power Point, Excel, etc.
  • Experience with an eQMS system preferred.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
