Summary/Objective

As a Controller, you will be critical in overseeing financial operations and ensuring accurate accounting practices. The Controller develops and executes strategies and standards related to accounting policy, financial reporting, general ledger maintenance, budgeting, and financial systems and controls. Oversees monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes and coordinates the preparation of financial statements and filings in compliance with GAAP. Conducts ad hoc analyses of the organization's finances and presents findings to executive leadership for decision-making and planning. Develops internal controls and oversees audits of policies and procedures meant to preserve and maximize the Company's Shareholder Equity.

  • Financial Reporting: You'll be responsible for producing periodic financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Accounting Operations: Oversee various accounting functions, such as general ledger (GL) accounting, accounts payable (A/P), accounts receivable (A/R), fixed assets, and expense management. Maintain a sound system of accounting records to support financial reporting.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with upper management to create a rolling strategic financial forecast. Develop budgets, track performance against targets, and identify areas for cost reduction or efficiency improvement. Utilize tools and software to prepare dashboards and financial summaries to discuss with leadership.
  • Risk Mitigation: Implement and maintain a comprehensive set of internal controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risks. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and industry standards.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise accounting and finance departments, guiding team members. Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment.
  • Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) Business Models: Leverage your understanding of e-commerce and direct-to-consumer business models. Analyze financial data specific to online sales channels and adapt strategies accordingly.
  • Financial Compliance: Stay informed about changes in accounting standards and regulations. Ensure the company adheres to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Cash Management: Monitor cash flow, optimize working capital, and manage liquidity. Make informed decisions regarding investments, debt, and capital expenditures.
  • Strategic Insights: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights that drive business decisions. Identify opportunities for growth and operational improvements.
  • Sustainability and Ethics: Promote ethical financial practices and contribute to the company's commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices.
  • Maintain compliance with government agencies.
  • Act as the point of contact for external auditors
  • Maintain internal books and finances. Analyze financial transactions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master's degree or CPA preferred)
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive experience, including exposure to e-commerce or retail industries.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in financial software and tools
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities
  • Ability to influence others.
  • Strategic thinking skills.
  • GAAP knowledge
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office suite
