Blue Origin is Hiring a Manufacturing Planner II Near Seattle, WA

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!
As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for planning, preparing, and documenting rocket engine manufacturing processes. As a Manufacturing Planner, you will help translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into fully detailed manufacturing work instructions. These work instructions will then be used to manufacture functional hardware ready for test, qualification, and flight. Through constant monitoring of the manufacturing process, you will identify where modifications to the work instructions (or other documents) are required to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build sequence and schedules. As an integral member of the team, you will help study the manufacturing process to strengthen the feedback loop between design, build, and test and accelerate the pace of rocket engine development. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable human spaceflight.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and document rocket engine manufacturing processes
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineers with translating engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into fully detailed manufacturing work instructions
  • Draft manufacturing work instructions to clearly define the following manufacturing process: receiving inspection, fabrication, assembly, test, integration, and refurbishment
  • Identify where modifications to the work instructions (or other documents) are required to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build sequence and schedules
  • Ensure company command media, specifications, and manufacturing work instructions are up to date and in sync
  • Create and maintain hardware build and flow plans
  • Strengthen the feedback loop between design, build, and test
  • Support and assist with documentation of repair and rework
  • Interface with the procurement team and external suppliers (when necessary) to ensure that hardware is manufactured, inspected, packaged, and delivered properly, on time, and on budget
  • Help ensure hardware configuration and pedigree are maintained throughout the entire build and test process
Qualifications
  • Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space!
  • Bachelor of Science or Arts from an accredited university (Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or Math degrees preferred) – other relevant fields should apply (relevant/direct industry experience is an acceptable substitute for a BS/BA degree).
  • 2 years of technical writing experience (manufacturing work instructions, specifications, test procedures, etc)
  • 2 years of experience in a complex/technical manufacturing environment
  • Mastery of technical writing for engineering and/or manufacturing
  • Direct knowledge of turbomachinery assembly processes, procedures and methodology.
  • Experience with dimensional stack-ups, shim calculations and hardware bottoming measurements
  • Knowledge of tooling and tooling requirements for the assembly and processing of turbomachinery hardware.
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience with work instruction documentation and BOM structures
  • Proven experience and successful track record developing/starting new manufacturing processes
  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc)
  • Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at all levels of the organization
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

About Blue Origin

Blue Origin was founded in 2000 by Jeff Bezos with the vision to enable a future where millions of people are living and working in space to benefit Earth. Blue believes we must protect Earth by moving heavy industries that stress our planet into space, and enable humanity to access space to expand, explore, and find new energy and material resources. Then we can see a dynamic and abundant future for our grandchildrens grandchildren. There is no plan B for Earth. To enable this future, we must build a road to space to lower the cost of getting there. Blue is working on this today by developing... operationally reusable launch vehicles that are safe, reliable and highly available. Every launch vehicle is designed for human spaceflight from the beginning and able to ferry payloads to space. Join the mission to build a road to space - step by step ferociously. #GradatimFerociter More
