Blue Ridge Energy is Hiring a Gis specialist Near Lenoir, NC

PURPOSE OF POSITION

  • To provide the engineering and operations departments with the most reliable transmission and distribution system maps and system models.
  • To assist the group to achieve company goals.
  • To provide necessary technical support to integrate the field inventory, electric and fiber optic GIS, automated staking sheet, CIS, engineering analysis, meter data management, AMI and outage management software programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Provide outstanding service to customers, both internal and external, with focus on providing all departments mapping and technical support and exhibit willingness as a team player to accomplish the goals that are necessary to achieve successful results.
  • Be responsible for electric utility facilities mapping using ESRI for automated mapping and facilities management.
  • Be responsible for publishing map data on a timely basis and communicating with map users when new updates are ready.
  • Provide guidance and direction in the area of advanced technology as it applies to facilities management, data management, and an integrated automated mapping system.

Be able to implement this technology as our needs and budgetary requirements warrant.

  • Develop and maintain an efficient, accurate, and effective system mapping program with all departments. Develop follow-up methods to ensure all updates are being captured on a timely basis.
  • Provide specialized mapping services required by Electric Services employees and its contractors.
  • Be responsible for maintaining construction drawings, system maps, and engineering drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Develops and maintains engineering databases of the electric system, including :

a. Equipment data bases, staking sheet application, ESRI based mapping application, ArcGIs Online and SDE programming applications, engineering analysis, and map viewing program for both PC and IOS applications.

b. Field inventory, geographical information, and geographical position systems.

JOB REQUIREMENTS / CLASSIFICATIONS

  • Education : An associate's degree in GIS emphasizing software programming is required while a bachelor's degree is highly preferred.
  • Experience : Must possess a minimum of five years of experience operating and maintaining a GIS system and be able to utilize the AutoCad and ESRI software systems.

Experience in electric utility construction highly preferred.

Job Knowledge and Skills : Skills in AutoCad and ESRI setup, keyboard commands, pull-down menus and creating, then extracting attribute information is a requirement as are skills in maintaining and developing ArcGIS Online applications.

A working knowledge of distribution / transmission power systems is highly desired. Must be familiar with capacity and other characteristics of electrical systems, PC based software applications, automated mapping, staking, engineering analysis and GPS systems.

  • Normal Work Hours : 8 : 00 A.M. to 5 : 00 P.M., Monday through Friday. Must be willing to travel throughout Blue Ridge Electric's service area and be able to attend job related workshops and / or seminars outside of this service area as required.
  • Driver's License Requirements : Operates company vehicle (light) as job requirement. Must have current, valid vehicle operator's license at all times.

Must have safe driving record (three years).

  • Overtime Status : This position is subject to the overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act, as amended.
