Duties/ResponsibilitiesThis position is responsible for keeping work areas clean and orderly, as well as operating industrial maintenance equipment within a shop environment and moving locomotives using radio and hand signals to communicate
EQUIPMENT OPERATION
- Operate forklift, mobile crane, trackmobile, shop tractor, and power hand tools
- Sand, fuel, and clean locomotives
- Clean and organize shop work area (sweep and clean work surfaces, store parts, empty and discard garbage)
- Operate power-driven equipment such as a vacuum cleaner, electric broom, or steam cleaning gun
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Extreme all-weather conditions
- Walk and peform work on uneven surfaces
- Safety sensitive work environment
- May be required to handle hazardous materials
- Loud noise and fumes
- Work on or around heavy/moving machinery
- Full-time (40 hours/week)
- Subject to seniority and governed by union agreement
- Mechanical shops operate 24 hours/day, 7 days/week with three 8-hour shifts including weekends, holidays, and overtime
- Minimal
- At least 18 years of age, or will be by the anticipated start date listed above
- Ability to report for duty at the designated work location
- Able to work safely in the above working conditions
- Able to work the above shift/hours
- Ability to read, write and communicate (speak, hear and communicate) English
- Ability to lift and carry up to 60 lbs without assistance
- Possess valid state-issued driver’s license
- Ability to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow
- Ability to discriminate and differentiate between verbal and non-verbal sounds (signals, alarms, etc.) in the work environment
- Ability to use hands and use hand tools to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning and pulling
- Ability to occasionally work from various heights
- Ability to bend, walk, stand and sit occasionally with breaks
- Follow safety policies and procedures; wear required personal protective equipment
- Ability to work in a team environment
