Board of Police Commissioners is Hiring an Entry Level and Lateral Police Officer Near Roscoe, IL

The Village of Roscoe, Illinois Board of Police and Fire Commissioners is accepting applications for the positions of entry level and lateral police officer with the Roscoe Police Department.

Salary Range: $59,428 - $93,238

Sworn Police Officers: 19
  • two open positions

Population: 10,800

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the Village of Roscoe, Illinois Board of Police and Fire Commissioners:

  • U.S. Citizenship or authorized to work in the United States under federal law or qualified under the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) for deferred immigration action. Must under federal law, be authorized to obtain, carry, purchase, or otherwise possess a firearm;
  • No felony convictions (Note: a misdemeanor or serious traffic offense may also disqualify applicants from further consideration);
  • Possess a valid state-issued driver's license;
  • Minimum of 21 years of age -AND- UNDER 35 years of age by the date the Commission's Final Eligibility Register is created unless otherwise exempt from such age limitations as provided in 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6 of the Fire and Police Commissioner's Act;
  • Be a high school graduate or possess a G.E.D. equivalent;
  • Must successfully pass a written examination;
  • Must successfully complete an oral interview and background investigation (applicants will be required to fully disclose all personal matters, to include agreements and sealed files);
  • Must successfully complete a psychological evaluation and medical screening (including drug and alcohol screening);
  • Must successfully pass physical agility test (Illinois P.O.W.E.R. Test) at time of academy.
  • Submit all application documents online by Friday, July 12, 2024 @ 4:00 PM CST;
  • Attend a mandatory orientation and written test on Saturday, July 20, 2024.

Lateral Transfer Candidates: An applicant who is a police officer in good standing with the law enforcement agency he/she is employed with and certified by the State certification board is eligible to be placed on a lateral transfer eligibility list.

  • Lateral transfer candidates are NOT required to obtain a P.O.W.E.R. test card;
  • Lateral transfer candidates are NOT required to take the written exam;
  • Lateral transfer candidates ARE REQUIRED to participate in the oral interview process;*
    • If the written exam requirement is waived, the oral examination shall constitute 100% of the applicant's total score.

In order to be eligible for the Lateral Transfer Eligibility List, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Applicant must be Illinois Law Enforcement Certified - OR - meet the out of state trained reciprocity requirements;
  • Must have served full time for at least two (2) years with a Law Enforcement Department;
  • Possesses substantially equivalent skills and abilities as a Village of Roscoe Police Officer who has completed the probationary period;
  • Has taken and passed such examinations as the Commission deems necessary to determine fitness for duty as a police officer;
  • Applicant authorizes the Board's review of the applicant's personnel file(s) and executes any and all documents necessary to facilitate such review.

Such applicants will be placed on a separate lateral-entrant eligibility register. The lateral-entry applicant with the highest ranking on the final lateral-entrant eligibility register will be considered tied with the highest ranking applicant on the final entry-level eligibility register for purposes of appointment to a vacancy by the Board. The Board, in its sole and absolute discretion, may make a conditional offer of employment, when one becomes available, to either candidate per its Rules and Regulations.

Preference points will be awarded as determined by the Village of Roscoe for the following:

Education: Possess an Associate's Degree in the field of criminal justice or related field from an accredited community or junior college - OR - a Bachelor's Degree or higher in any field from an accredited college or university.

Military: Persons who were engaged in active military or naval service of the United States for at least one year and were honorably discharged.

Current Illinois Law Enforcement Officers: Persons awarded a certificate attesting to the successful completion of the Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Training Course as provided in the Illinois Police Training Act.
