The Animal Care Technician LG4 will derive products from livestock, companion, and laboratory animals with a strong emphasis on USDA/AAALACi Animal Welfare compliance/enhancement and GxP documentation of animal observations supporting QC and R&D testing. Duties & ResponsibilitiesHusbandry:
Handles, restrains, feeds, provides relevant training/enrichment and otherwise caring for Production, Quality Control, and Research animals in accordance with AAALACi Standards, USDA Regulations, Standard Operating Procedures, Standard Methods, and Outlines of Production.
Prepares for incoming animals (power washing, disinfecting, facility setup) and performs general housekeeping
Testing:
Performs all aspects of equipment preparation and sterilization
Performs animal conditioning (vaccinations, deworming, etc.) along with collection of animal data (blood sample, temperature, biological sample, etc.).
Administers treatments prescribed by the veterinarian for livestock, companion, and laboratory animals
Documentation:
Follows BIVI Standard Operating Procedures, Standard Methods, and Outlines of Production
Properly documents work and observations performed with strict adherence to GXP documentation and proceed independently without direct supervision
Support:
Assists in training other employees in an area of responsibility as assigned
Assists staff in developing new procedures and methods or improving old ones
Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent degree (GED)
Animal care experience with recent livestock background is required
AALAS Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification must be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire date and Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) within twenty-four (24) months of hire date
Skills:
Ability to work safely with livestock and lab animals
Animal observations and care
Knowledge of proper sanitation techniques and ability to properly perform and follow rules of these techniques
Ability to accurately dilute various fluids, including weighing and measuring, using the metric system
Proper operation of large equipment (snow removal equipment, farm machinery, fork truck, etc.)
Understands aseptic processes and properly performing functions in an aseptic manner
Eligibility Requirements:
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction
Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
