The Certified Pharmacy Technician is responsible for filling and preparing patient medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and in accordance with state and federal regulations. The pharmacy technician performs data entry, initial insurance verification/benefit investigation, order fulfillment, patient refill assessments, and inventory management. This position is in constant communication with patients, physicians, nursing staff, patient financial counselors, and third-party payers.

Must have working knowledge basic of computer processing, medical terminology, arithmetic and insurance; Must be able to make and answer telephone calls from patients; will communicate to the pharmacist or physician team any medication issues that may impact receipt of medication.

Organizational and problem-solving skills are essential; must be highly self-motivated, self-directed, and attentive to detail; able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Daily job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Performing data entry. Reviews prescriptions to determine omitted information and resolving issues relating to invalid prescriptions (e.g., obtaining refills, incorrect sig, missing information)
• Submitting claims to insurance or other third-party payers
• Identifying and assessing coverage options for patients with insurance. Serves as a liaison between the patient, third party, and PFC to assist with investigation of patient insurance benefits and supplemental payer information in order to minimize patient out of pocket expenses.
• Accurately pulling medications, counting and filling prescriptions.
• Handling telephone calls not requiring attention of the pharmacist, including refill request, and initial drug utilization review attempts.
• Uses workflow software to record incoming and outbound contact attempts to patients, physician teams, and insurance companies.
• Ordering, unpacking, checking of hazardous and non-hazardous medications. Processing claims for overages/shortages, recalls and returns. Assisting with inventory management.
