POSITION REPORTS TO: Sr. Manager of Supply Chain Controlling

POSITIONS MANAGED: None

POSITION PURPOSE

This individual is responsible for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. Responsibilities will specifically be focused on constructing and monitoring those cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management. The Cost Accountant is also responsible for creating and reviewing the controls needed for data accumulation and reporting systems. This person will also assist with the annual audit and be responsible for contributing to a positive team atmosphere.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES & QUALIFICATIONS:

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS/BA Degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience
  • 4 years of relevant operations experience within finance, cost accounting, production planning, supply chain, etc.
  • Experience with inventory, product cost, bill of materials, and work orders in a manufacturing environment is required
  • Demonstrated experience with ERP systems; SAP preferred
  • Extensive working knowledge of PC functions and Microsoft Office programs including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – both written and verbal
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • CMA certification is a plus

JOB DUTIES:

  • Work with Plant Manager and Operations team to develop effective and efficient month end close process as it relates to inventory and cost accounting processes.
  • Provide senior management effective understanding and analysis of inventory and COGS actual results, budget development, and variance reporting. Effectively tell the story of significant drivers affecting COGS and inventory revaluations.
  • Support creation of annual plant operating budget, including labor and overhead costs, spending costs, launch, inventory, related costs, etc.
  • Partner with the Operations team to understand material cost drivers and to develop and implement ongoing cost savings strategies, and benchmarking.
  • Partner with the Operations and Finance teams to review cost drivers.
  • Partner with Procurement team to support costing, supplier claims and track payments, manage monthly inventory and COGS analyses.
  • Manage COGS functions, including inventory transactions, gross margin analysis, and variances. Provide detailed inventory reconciliation and COGS analytics.
  • Support cycle count and physical inventory process, and support annual external audits
  • Perform month/quarter end close activities related to cost accounting.
  • Review bills of material to ensure accurate invoicing and product costing, and work with purchasing to create bills of materials for new items.
  • Partner with the Operations team to understand material cost drivers and to develop and implement ongoing cost savings strategies and benchmarking
  • Perform detailed analysis of PPV account and other manufacturing variance accounts.
  • Update standard costs as needed – monthly cost roll and systematic freight add-ons.
  • Able and willing to work necessary hours to meet all project deadlines and travel when necessary.
  • Develop mutually beneficial, respectful, and effective relationships with peers to ensure seamless coordination between departments, maximize synergy, and maintain a shared vision, strategy, and focus.
