Boone Memorial Hospital is Hiring an Executive Director of Nursing Near Madison, WV

As a member of the Hospital's senior management team, the Executive Director of Nursing Services (EDNS) will participate in functional decision-making processes necessary to the successful attainment of the hospital's mission in addition to maintaining an awareness of changes in healthcare clinical matters that could have an impact on the success of the hospital. The Executive Director of Nursing Services will work under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to create an environment in which nurses are able to perform their jobs effectively. The Executive Director of Nursing Services is responsible to work with the CNO to ensure that patient services are in compliance with nursing care standards as well as state and federal regulations. They will be involved in developing and revising nursing policies and procedures, and will often assist the CNO with nurse recruitment, retention, training and quality assurance.

  • Assist the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in providing leadership to nurse employees that will enroll their support, create ownership of goals, and have them actively participate in decisions that impact the hospital.
  • Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates the overall clinical nursing practice and administrative activities, including fiscal, material and human resource management.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of hospital policies and procedures
  • Maintains open communication with all staff to promote improvement in performance
  • Participates in staff development, educational programs and orientation
  • Functions effectively as a key player in the facility Leadership teams
  • Works collaboratively with users of clinical information systems.
  • Provides leadership for planning and administering information operations for nursing departments.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, scientific judgment and leadership in managing unit-based Performance Improvement initiatives
  • Assist the CNO in maintaining necessary regulatory and compliance approvals and quality accreditations.
  • Partnering with physicians who use, or will use, the hospital.
  • Assisting in planning new services that generate additional sources of profitable revenue.
  • Creating an environment that will encourage recruiting and retention of clinical employees.
  • Assisting the CNO in managing costs by continually seeking data that will identify opportunities and take action to eliminate non-value costs.
  • Assisting the CNO in establishing standards for nursing practices and maintain authority, accountability and responsibility for nursing services.
  • Developing organizational patient care programs, policies and procedures that describe how nursing care is assessed, delivered and evaluated.
  • Assisting the CNO in developing and managing the nursing services budget and ensuring sufficient number of qualified staff to assess patient needs.
  • Planning and providing nursing care interventions and prevent complications, promote improvement and patient comfort and wellness.
  • Analyzing areas in planning, promoting and conducting organization-wide performance improvement activities.
  • Representing the nursing services at meetings as deemed necessary; participates with department heads in designing and providing patient care and services.
  • The Executive Director of Nursing Services will oversee multiple departments within the hospital as assigned position reports directly to the CNO and in the absence of the CNO, the EDNS may be required to interpret hospital policy and provide guidance.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Executive Director of Nursing Services will oversee multiple departments within the hospital as assigned position reports directly to the CNO and in the absence of the CNO, the Executive Director of Nursing Services may be required to interpret hospital policy and provide guidance.

    ntinuously requires vision, hearing, twisting, and talking. Frequently requires standing, fine dexterity, sitting, and handling. Occasionally requires walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, kneeling, pushing/pulling, bending, and crouching. Rarely requires climbing.

Required education and experience

  • Must be a registered nurse (RN) with a current licensure
  • Must possess detailed knowledge of hospital nursing operations
  • A minimum of 2 years of demonstrated successful leadership in a nursing department of the hospital environment
  • Graduate of a registered nursing program with 5 years current nursing experience


Preferred education and experience


  • Must be a registered nurse with the WV Board of Nursing in the state of WV
  • Must be currently certified with Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • At least 6 years
