Job Description

Within the Vehicle Motion Division, we design and develop state-of-the art safety and motion solutions for passenger cars, light trucks, and up to medium heavy truck. Vehicle Motion provides solutions for mobility through steering, braking, occupant safety, and vehicle dynamic sensors. Vehicle Motion is also a leader in the software and services that will support the future of Software Defined Vehicles.

The Steering Lab Test Team Lead is responsible for leading a team of 10-12 technicians and ensuring effective, daily test lab operations. The highest priorities are the safety, qualification, and positive motivation of all lab personnel, which requires an emphasis on clear communication and organized work distribution.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example to maintain safety, order, and expedient processing of testing work orders
  • Lead daily operations of lab staff, including actively managing Kanban style assignment of work orders to required personnel and lab equipment
  • Conduct and lead regular alignment with test engineers to obtain weekly forecast of lab tasks and test bench scheduling
  • Align priorities with test engineers and leadership team in event of resource conflicts or constraints
  • Monitor technician currency for test procedure proficiency
  • Ensure consistent and thorough training among team, and enable cross training within team
  • Establish metrics to quantify test equipment utilization and facilitate Plan – Do – Check – Act cycle of efficiency improvements
  • Identify opportunities for development of new technical capabilities or procedures
  • Conduct annual goal setting and regular performance reviews with technician team members
  • Coach technician team members and guide career development
  • Monitor and approve team working times, including occasional scheduling of overtime
  • Key counterpart for site’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) and Facilities Management (FCM) representatives
  • Ensure awareness, training, and adherence to all site safety and environmental policies
  • Proactively identify and address any hazards in the work environment
  • Review and consult on technical issues with equipment and test set up, which will require ability to analyze complex technical topics with mechanical and electrical test equipment and test samples
  • Define storage concept for high volume of test samples to ensure impeccable organization and effective material flow in, through and out of test lab
  • Assign and check regular organization and cleanliness tasks, including cooperation with test engineers and regular review of onsite test sample inventory.

Qualifications


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or technical field with 5 years of experience in engineering lab or automotive production setting or 10 years in automotive production or engineering lab including leadership responsibilities
  • Demonstrated people leadership skills
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities
  • Familiarity with design elements and technical features of mechatronic systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot and find solutions for technical and procedural issues

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of and technical experience with function and construction of rack and pinion electric power steering systems
  • Ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel and management
  • Knowledge of Vector tools and CAN communication
