Job DescriptionAdministrative Assistant, Economics
Hiring Range: $24.92/hr to $31.15/hr. Pay rate commensurate with relevant experience.
The Administrative Assistant works as part of a team to manage the administrative functioning of the department and the daily operations of the graduate program. This position reports to the Chair of the Economics Department and provides support to the Chair, the Director of Graduate Studies, the graduate students, and the faculty.
The primary focus of the role is to assist the Director of Graduate Studies in all administrative management functions of the graduate program as assigned. The assistant serves as department liaison with other University offices for administrative and budgetary matters of the graduate program.
As part of the administrative team, the assistant is responsible for staffing the front desk, answering the department phone, and monitoring the department email account. The assistant answers questions and directs students to the Advisor/Academic Administrator or faculty when appropriate. They help with hiring, training and overseeing undergraduate student workers.
The Economics Department has 40 faculty, 85 graduate students, and over 1,300 undergraduate majors/minors.
RequirementsHigh school diploma and one year of administrative support experience, with a preference for experience in a higher education setting.
Excellent organizational skills, the ability to self-start and work independently, prioritize tasks and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Strong interpersonal skills to deal with a culturally diverse group and to handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.
