Boston Public Schools seeks an Early Childhood Program Developer.

General Description and Goals:
The Early Childhood Instructional Program Developer (PD) will focus on enhancing teacher, paraprofessional, and school administration and/or community based preschool program capacity to provide instruction that builds students' skills and develops students' sense of engagement in and ownership of their learning from students in grades preschool to second grade (P-2). As a member of the Department of Early Childhood, the Early Childhood PD will also assist in system-wide supports and professional development and coaching for the BPS through coaching, professional development, technical assistance, to ensure that all Boston's Public Schools youngest lear ners succeed.

Reports to: Executive Director of Early Childhood

Responsibilities:
  • Support principals and appropriate school-based teams in:
    • The development and implementation of a school-based professional development program for early childhood teachers preschool to second grade
    • Coaching and mentoring the early childhood teachers in their use of P-2 nd grade early childhood interdisciplinary curriculum as well as early childhood instructional practices and protocols
    • National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation process (if applicable)
    • Reviewing materials to ensure consistency of approach and alignment early childhood curriculum and NAEYC accreditation.
  • Provide support and professional development to administrators responsible for supervising and evaluating teachers.
  • Participate in professional development, including peer observations, professional research and reading, and inquiry sessions as well as connect to professional development offerings from other departments
  • Design and oversee appropriate P-2 curriculum and PD to support early childhood programming across the district, and in community based programs (not all coaches are involved in community based programs)
  • Using various tools including coaching logs and assessments, inform the Department of Early Childhood's PD practices, coaching, and curriculum to ensure strong fidelity of curriculum implementation
  • Actively participate in departmental and cross-functional teams.
  • Partner with other departments, schools, and organizations to work towards the Department's goal of closing the achievement and opportunity gaps for all of Boston's early learners
  • Implement the NAEYC Accreditation and early childhood curriculum in K0/K1 and K2 Classrooms, including facilitating inquiry groups among teachers and paraprofessionals in which issues related to implementing the early childhood curriculum and obtaining NAEYC accreditation on site are considered, current research and writing on effective practice is read and discussed, and student work and data are reviewed to inform instruction (if applicable).

Qualifications - Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Hold a valid MA DESE license in Early Childhood AND Principal/Assistant Principal OR Director/Supervisor License
  • Strong background in P-2 early childhood instruction
  • A minimum of five years early childhood teaching experience
  • Experience teaching/coaching teachers in the area of early childhood (P-2 grade) education
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory
  • Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills Interpersonal skills to share proven instructional approaches with teachers and administrators and provide advice and coaching
  • Strong organizational skills and efficiency in meeting deadlines
Qualifications - Preferred:
  • Master's Degree
  • Experience working as an Early Childhood mentor, director, teacher, education specialist or coordinator
  • Experience in developing and designing P-2 curriculum materials
  • Experience developing and presenting professional development opportunities
  • Experience coaching for NAEYC accreditation
  • Experience teaching/working in an urban setting
  • Competence in more than one language
  • Special education/ELL credential, experience, and/or expertise
  • Strong background with Boston Public Schools' curricula
TERMS: BASAS 9, 207 days.
