Opportunity and Achievement Gaps Summer Tech Intern Coop (Summer 2024)
Reports To: ESI Summer Site Coordinator & Coordinator of Targeted Programs, Executive Director, Immigrant & Targeted Programming, Office of Opportunity Gaps
Division Overview:
The BPS EOG Division ensures that the district places the elimination of disparities, particularly racial disparities, at the center of all of our instructional and operational work. Led by the Chief Equity and Strategy Officer the Division comprises vital departments: the Office of Equity, the Office of the Opportunity Gaps, the Office of Strategy and Innovation, and the Office of Retention, Cultivation, and Diversity. Together, these four offices ensure every department and every school rigorously realizes the district's comprehensive, ambitious, systemic strategic plan; aligns its work to the BPS Opportunity and Achievement Gap Policy; and designs and implements policies, programs, protocols, and curricula intentionally focused on meeting the needs and advancing the academic outcomes of students from historically marginalized groups.
Description:
The Opportunity & Achievement Gap Intern supports the Opportunity Gaps Office Leadership Team of the Boston Public Schools, reporting to Dr. Yozmin Gay, Assistant Superintendent, Office of Opportunity Gaps. The Opportunity & Achievement Gap Summer Tech Intern is responsible for providing support in key areas, performing key tech tasks to move programs/initiatives forward, and contributing to reports, and research, to advance the mission of the Boston Public Schools.
The Boston Public Schools Office of Opportunity Gaps aims to ensure every student in every classroom gets what they need. By ensuring effective implementation of the OAG Policy, Strategic Planning, and Quality School Plans, the Office of Opportunity Gaps aims to focus exclusively on positive student outcomes.
The internship will support the office in performing a range of responsibilities, including:
ESI Tech Support
  • Provide Apple / Windows / Chromebook technical support
  • Provide technology support for faculty and staff
  • Manage staff and student email accounts
  • Manage ESI Chromebook Inventory
  • Troubleshoot all hardware and software issues
  • Contact and follow up with the district tech team for repairs
  • Manage Google Suite. Google Classroom, Drive
  • Manage lifecycle and inventory of technology (Chromebooks, laptops, printers. projectors) ? Support the district tech team with summer password resets for Chromebooks
Applicants with a passion for equity and inclusion, and an ability to relate well to people from a wide variety of backgrounds are preferred. Bilingual skills, particularly in Spanish, are a plus, but not required.
Qualifications:
The Office of Opportunity Gaps seeks interns who have:
  • Demonstrated interest in civil rights, equity, and inclusion
  • Interest in education and/or employment law and related issues
  • Prior work experience in technology, educational, or other related settings
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with internal and external BPS stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and employ excellent judgment, exercise discretion, and maintain unwavering integrity
Training:
Opportunity Gaps Summer Tech Intern will receive training provided by our Executive Director of Targeted Programming, the Coordinator of Targeted Programming, and other Boston Public School staff on a variety of topics, including:
  • Education and employment discrimination law, and related internal policies ? Opportunity and achievement gaps in urban education
  • Operationalizing racial and other forms of equity in decision-making and policy-setting ? Select topics in civil rights and education
Supervisor:
Coordinator of Targeted Programming & theExecutive Director, Immigrant & Targeted Programming
Wage Type: Hourly: Stipend to be distributed to intern Summer 2025 (upon meeting the managerial approved workdays)
TERMS : 120 Hours to be completed in Summer months
