Summary:

The Virtual Literacy Interventionist as part of the Virtual Intervention Program (VIP) will provide synchronous online reading instruction to elementary students around the district. This position requires a commitment to accelerating students to grade level reading proficiencies using an in-depth understanding of evidence-based literacy best practices and requires dedication to providing engaging online learning activities for students. Collaboration with peer VIP teachers is an integral part of this highly demanding position. They will work closely with participating school administrators, classroom and English Language Development teachers, and parents to support the district's systematic approach to increasing student achievement in reading proficiency. In person school visits are part of this position to create student and staff relationships, and foster connections while conducting individual student assessments.

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively manages the online teaching and learning environment.
  • Values student diversity and supports the unique learning needs of each individual student.
  • Exhibits a growth mindset through regular collaborative work with the VIP team.
  • Conducts in person student screening/diagnostic assessments in reading.
  • Implements high quality reading instruction/interventions focused on identified outcomes (Including instruction in Orton Gillingham & Really Great Reading based interventions).
  • Conducts ongoing progress monitoring assessments for each student and enters student data into an online data management system on a timely and regular basis.
  • Works with the VIP team to set an Intervention schedule that works for each participating school. Coordinates the logistics for literacy instruction for students performing below/above grade level in reading and facilitates data sharing meetings.
  • Works collaboratively with participating schools’ Administrators, General Education Teachers and English Language Development Teachers.
  • Participates in professional learning and provides leadership and professional development for teachers to use proven, effective literacy instructional strategies and literacy online resources.
  • Communicates regularly with parents by sending out a letter of introduction and sharing student progress. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Currently hold a Colorado teaching license in Elementary or Secondary Education, or have licensure application in process with appropriate endorsement, or willingness to acquire endorsement as: Reading Teacher or Reading Specialist (must upload license or in process documentation to application). 
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience at either the elementary or secondary level. 
  • Trained in and have an in-depth knowledge of literacy assessments, Orton Gillingham based interventions and other evidence-based interventions (elementary) (must upload certificates or in process documentation to application). 
  • Must have completed K-3 Teacher Training as part of the READ Act through the Colorado Department of Education or willing to obtain it while in the position.
  • Completed and submitted BVSD on-line application. 
  • Must live in commuting range of BVSD due to in-person responsibilities.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish (must pass BVSD assessment)

Preferred: 

  • Online teaching experience
  • Masters in Literacy or have a Reading Teacher or Reading Specialist endorsement on CDE license. 
  • Understanding of the READ Act and how to implement requirements of READ Act legislation. 
  • Knowledge of how a student learns to read. 
  • Diagnostic and prescriptive skills in reading, writing, speaking and spelling. 
  • Experience with MTSS/RTI structures including interim assessments, targeted instruction and progress monitoring. 
  • Experience with linguistically diverse and other diverse learners. 
  • Highly skilled at using digital resources.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to function well in self-directed activities, work collaboratively, and take initiative to complete tasks. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with administrators, teachers, specialists, and parents, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Skilled in group facilitation, coordination, and leadership. 
  • Certification as an Academic Language Therapist. 

Salary Information:

Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
