Each and every day girls and boys are left to find their own recreation and companionship. An increasing amount of kids are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know they have a place in their community where they can go. Clubs provide a safe haven for youth, allow them to meet with friends and be a part of positive peer groups. Club programs teach life skills, conflict resolution and focus on the development of character. Clubs also provide members with positive role models and a nurturing environment that help improve decision-making skills.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Project Director, the 21st Century, School and Family EngagementSpecialist is responsible for linking students and families with the WesternSussex Boys & Girls Club- Laurel Extension. Students attending from the Laurel SchoolDistrict partnering Elementary and Middle Schools will be the targetschools. The position includes projectmanagement, community outreach and grants management. Individual will require excellent communication skills as well as project coordination andimplementation to ensure that programs comply with current OCCL, DelawareSTARS and 21st CCLC rules and regulations. 

Essential Functions

  • Develop and maintain relationship with Laurel School District faculty and administrators, BGCDE administrators andClub professionals, community leaders and supporters, ect.
  • Daily communication with Laurel SchoolDistrict Partnering schools, teachers and administrators.
  • Assist with program staff and teachersin communication with parents of students who attend the 21stCentury Community Learning Center (CCLC). 
  • Share information gained with 21st CCLC, Project Director, program staff and teachers of identified students.
  • Develop and implement recruitmentplans for 21st CCLC participants. 
  • Responsible for coordination ofparental and volunteer orientation. 
  • Coordination logistics of familyengagement activities and special events as outlined in 21st CCLCGrant. Links families with community resources. 
  • Assists with the coordination of 21CCLC program advisory board.
  • Have an understanding of current statelicensing (OCCL) and Purchase of Care (POC) requirements for school agechildcare centers; address non-compliance issues as needed. 
  • Maintain appropriate, supportive andpositive interactions with Club Members; establish and maintain behavioralboundaries per Boys & Girls Club guidance and supervision policies and guidelines.
  • Within established organizational guidelines, develop and maintain a system for accurately tracking necessarydata for reporting, coordinate with Childcare Director, Project Director and share information regularly (program attendance, academic progress, behaviorreferrals, etc.)
  • Complete and submit reports and perform other administrative tasks as needed or directed, including but notlimited to:Purchasing, Labor reports,grant reporting, etc. 
  • Control expenditures against an assigned budget; recommend income and expense projections for assigned area ofresponsibility.
  • Transport youth as needed with company van.
  • At all times, present yourself as a positive role model for youth and a strong ambassador of the organization.
  • Perform other duties pertaining to the 21st CCLC project as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements 

A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. 

Minimum Requirements

Twenty (20) years of age or older 

Must be able to pass an FBI clearance, State of
Delaware Criminal History Background Check, National and State Sexual Abuse
Registry check, and National and State Child Abuse Registry Check per DelaCare
regulations. 

High school diploma or its equivalency recognized by the Delaware Department of Education. 

Twelve (12) college credits from a regionally
accredited institution in recreation, elementary education, school-age care or
school-age administration AND 

One (1) year of full time experience (must be equivalent to 1,000 hours) working with children in kindergarten through sixthgrade in a group setting. 

  • Preferred Qualifications: (School-Age Administrator) Twenty (21) years of age or older 
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Fifteen (15) college credits with three (3) from each of the following area: child development/learning, environment/curriculum,social-emotional development, observation/assessment; and one three-creditcourse in school-age elective AND Eighteen (18) months of (must be equivalent to1,500 hours) experience working with children kindergarten through sixth grade in group setting.

Working Conditions:The majority of the worktime is split between an office and Club/School setting, which may includeactivities out of doors.Occasionaltravel in and out of town is required.

Work Hours: Monday- Friday 9:00am- 5:00pm. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends based upon business needs.
