About Us: The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Bay & Lakes Region is dedicated to providing a safe and positive environment where young people can learn, grow, and succeed. We offer a range of programs and activities aimed at enriching the lives of our members and fostering their personal and academic development.

Position Overview: The Youth Mental Health Counselor provides counseling to youth ages 7-18 by addressing and treating mental health challenges and concerns. This position employs culturally competent, trauma-informed approaches and strategies to diagnose, treat, and support clients and their families to achieve progress and goals. The Counselor engages, assesses, and evaluates gaps to meet the unique needs of each youth/family.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide mental health counseling to individuals, families, and groups to improve mental health through live, in-person sessions and live electronic platform sessions, as needed (i.e., Telehealth counseling).
  • Assess and treat mental health challenges for a wide range of presenting concerns.
  • Support clients and families in defining goals, engaging with the treatment plan, and counseling process to move toward successful discharge.
  • Provide support throughout the Clubhouse to best support youth in meeting daily expectations by applying Emotional Wellness Core Competencies and TIC values.
  • Aid in the assessment of Clubhouse systematic needs and development of effective intervention techniques.
  • Engage Clubhouse staff, caregivers, school professionals, and outside agencies as appropriate to best support the needs of our members.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed as LPC/LPC-IT or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) license is preferred (will consider LCSW/LPC resident in training).
  • Three (3) years’ experience working with youth; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with youth and families.
  • Strong oral communication skills, including the ability to coordinate communications between multiple stakeholders while honoring privacy.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to accurately and succinctly maintain client records.
  • Counseling skills that include knowledge of counseling methods and application, ability to establish strong effective therapeutic alliances.
  • Possesses compassion, empathy, patience, flexibility, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work as a team and independently.
  • High level knowledge/training in Trauma Informed Care.

Schedule: Full Time / M-F; School Year 10:00am-6:00pm; Full Time/ M-F; Summer 9:00am to 5:00pm
