Position Summary:
Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Virginia (BGCCVA) is seeking a dedicated, high-capability individual for a unique and meaningful opportunity to manage the development of the Club’s workforce. The director performs a variety of human resource (HR) functions including, but not limited to, recruitment, new hire and benefits orientation, onboarding activities, employee training programs, hiring support, job and compensation analysis, and employee relations. BGCCVA offers fast-paced and fulfilling work in an organization serving more than 1,500 kids, ages 5-18, annually through comprehensive year-round youth development programs in six locations.
Position Description:
- Act as first point of contact with employees and supervisors on HR-related inquiries; apply judgment and discretion to HR issues and concerns.
- Advise managers on performance management, long-term planning, compensation issues, recruitment, and onboarding activities; provide information, direction, and advice when requested by employees and supervisors.
- Support organization staff by establishing a recruiting, and interviewing program; counsel managers on candidate selection; ensure background and referencing checks are completed; conduct and analyze exit interviews; and recommend improvements to processes and/or procedures.
- Ensure background, reference and any other procedural checks are completed.
- Maintain all current and historical human resource records in filing and retrieval system.
- Maintain the work structure by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions.
- Maintain current organizational chart.
- Update policies and procedures for employee handbook.
- Administer performance management and appraisal system; maintain and lead the organization's performance evaluation schedule.
- Ensure planning, monitoring, and appraisal of employee work results by training managers to coach and discipline employees; schedule management conferences with employees; hear and resolve employee grievances; counsel employees and supervisors.
- Provide intake for complaint investigations.
- Act as main point of contact for benefits providers, and maintain benefits documents information for employees; complete enrollment, administration, reconciliation, and evaluation of benefits.
- Lead and complete the organizational biweekly payroll function.
- Evaluate service annually from external payroll company as main point-of-contact.
- Provide education to employees and conduct administration of worker’s compensation program and worker’s compensation annual audit.
- Act as contact for retirement benefits; administer retirement plan enrollments, compliance, audits; provide education and awareness of retirement benefits.
- Serve as primary administrator for the organizations 403b/457b retirement plan which includes comparing payroll reports and 403b deposits; communicate with the finance team on discrepancies, managing/approving distributions and other functions as needed.
- Complete annual compliance reporting including but not limited to annual EEO-1, ACA, quarterly
- Work with managers to develop standardized and equitable processes across the organization.
- Manage compensation to ensure equity throughout the organization and make recommendations to management for compensation offers and adjustments.
- Ensure compliance with employment, benefits, insurance, safety, and other laws, regulations, and
- requirements.
- Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in all practices and policies, across all locations and departments.
- Review current practices and policies, assessing and analyzing the extent to which they support or hinder the organization’s diversity goals; maintain knowledge of diversity related issues, compliance, and laws.
- Create and support opportunities, systems, and expectations that promote an organizational culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Create, foster, and maintain a respectful and inclusive environment for all people.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of current Human Resources policies and practices; and federal, state, and local HR laws

Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (a high school diploma with at least four years of exempt-level HR
- experience)
- Bachelor's degree in human resource management or business administration preferred
- SHRM certification preferred
Work Conditions:
- Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading
- Ability to be effective in an environment with varying levels of noise throughout the day to include severe auditory fluctuations
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 75% of the work day
- Ability to constantly operate a computer and other office equipment such as copier, printer, filing cabinets, etc.
- Ability to accurately and effectively exchange information due to frequent communication with other organization personnel, external partners and others
- Ability to engage in substantial repetitive motion from typing or writing, etc.
- Ability to travel to all Club locations
