JOB SUMMARY: 

The Program Director is a member of the Club’s leadership team and an integral part of the day-to-day supervision of the clubhouse operations in their assigned building. The Program Director assist the Executive Director in leading, managing, directing and monitoring the overall daily operations of a club with primary concern for safety, high quality programming, driving optimal club experience and service delivery/outcomes for youth ages 6 to 18, as well as employee management. Additionally, assist the Executive Director with community relationships, financial well-being, and facility management of the location. Provide a safe, fun learning environment that enables a member to grow and develop into a responsible adult. The Program Director reports directly to the Executive Director and may manage the club in supervisor’s absence.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
 Front-line accountability for quality program delivery including core programs, new initiatives, summer programs, junior staff development program and outcome measurement systems.
 Trains, monitors and develop staff so that programs are well delivered. Responsible for direct supervision of part-time program staff and program volunteers.
 Evaluation of programming activity and impact is regularly & consistently reviewed. Action steps are implemented, reviewed & updated regularly and program improvements are made as a regular process.
 Plans, develops, evaluates and oversees implementation of arts, education, social recreation, health and physical education, computer center and specialty programs, activities and services that prepares youth for success.
 Participate in network-wide shared learning. Share experiences and learning with BGCMA organization through collaborative and team opportunities.
 Surveys members’ interest in programs, tracks member participation in programs, and outcomes. Works with Executive Director to plan and implement changes to improve results.
 Develops monthly/quarterly program schedule and plans implementation with program staff. Promotes and markets programs to club members via meetings, announcements, bulletin boards, flyers, mailing, posted schedules, etc.
 Ensures designated and daily year-round and summer programs meet stated objectives, member needs and interests, are organized and engaging and result in high participation.
 Ensure programs are inclusive to all genders, abilities, and cultures.
 Plans, execute, and collect program data to support measures and report outcomes; prepares programs’ reports, as needed.
 Monitors program delivery, works with program staff to plan and implement improvements. Communicates with club staff, members and partner agencies to insure understanding of programs opportunities, schedule and plans when outside entities participate in program delivery.
 Plans special events and field trips, ensures they are properly supervised and releases and other paperwork completed. Helps plan and oversee implementation of opportunities to recognize club members.
 Works with the Executive Director to handles crisis situations and takes action to resolve conflicts, disputes and concerns of staff, club members, volunteers, and parents.
 Ensure age and stage appropriate programming which is relevant and passion–driven.
 Align club program strategy to organizational program tracks and training framework.
Safety/Facility
 Communicates and enforces organization’s policies, procedures and standards with regard to upkeep, usage and maintenance of program areas and equipment.
 Plans and takes action to ensure program areas are safe, attractive, well-maintained, and clean.
 Observes members and works with staff to correct unsafe behaviors, to enforce safety rules and to communicate safety guidelines. Ensures emergency procedures are implemented and followed and takes actions to prevent accidents.
 Responds to injury and signs of illness and reports member, staff, and/or volunteer accidents/incidents/injuries to supervisor; completes appropriate reports.
Supervision, Attendance, Supplies
 Helps select part-time staff to deliver programs identifying training and oversight required for effective program delivery,
 Orient staff, interns and volunteers to program goals.
 Helps evaluates staff’ performance and recommends professional development, promotion, and discipline/discharge.
 Trains and guides Program Staff to ensure an environment that promotes the physical, social and emotional well-being of youth, that incorporates guidance and discipline principles and that ensures understanding of designated programs.
 Monitors program areas and provides constructive feedback to staff with regard to program delivery and member guidance and discipline. Plans and implements opportunities to recognize program staff.
 In the absence of Executive Director seeks guidance when handling crisis situations.
 Takes action to resolve conflicts, disputes and/or concerns of staff, club members, interns or volunteers.
 Maintains membership and attendance through effective programming and works toward meeting club membership goals through retention.
 Review and submit program supplies in a cost efficient and timely manner; ensures program staff has supplies required to run programs.
 Supports the Executive Director with member/parent orientation program, parent meetings, and parent engagement.
Technology, Budget, Other
 Updates and maintains technology skills required to manage the membership and measurement information systems.
 Works with Executive Director to develop program budget. Approves program expenditures to authorized level; ensures expenditures considered costs and best value.
 Helps Executive Director Plan, schedule and control hours worked by program staff. Seeks to optimize use of donated and free resources.
 Provides Executive Directors information for program reports.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
 Bachelor’s degree preferred, Substitute education for experience, Six (6) years of professional experience in Youth Development, Education, or related field
 A minimum of two years’ work experience directly with youth, in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization managing full-time/part-time staff, and planning activities based on the developmental needs of young people.
 Flexibility to work clubhouse hours, especially as seasons and service needs change.
 Demonstrated ability to creatively plan, coordinate, and evaluate quality youth programs directly and through collaborations. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other departments/organizations deliver quality programs to club members and potential members.
 Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills. P.C. literate in MS Office.
 Demonstrated ability to train, orient and recognize staff, volunteers and outside resources. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing, in presentations to an audience, and electronically.
 Demonstrated ability to control expenses and creatively use resources. Demonstrated ability to persuasively promote programs and deliver same.
 Demonstrated ability to handle crisis and to resolve conflicts, disputes or concerns among staff, club members, contractors and/or volunteers.

All other duties as assigned.

ENVIRONMENT & WORKING CONDITIONS:

Community-based location that serves youth, families and community members daily. Frequent host site for organizational and communal meetings and events. Frequent contact with employees, community-based organizations, families, Club members, and community members. Some required travel to Club locations and community partners. Frequent deadlines. Atypical work schedule, including evening and weekend work. The position requires walking and climbing stairs; Light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
