POSITION DESCRIPTION
Title: Nutrition Program Coordinator
Work Schedule:
Full-time, non-exempt. Generally scheduled up to 40 hrs/week, 9:00am-6:00pm, Monday-Friday
during Regular Program; and 7:30am-4::30pm during Intersession Program. Occasional late
evenings and weekends for staff training and special events,

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the unit Director, the Nutrition Coordinator is responsible for managing and overseeing BGCMC nutrition services that includes planning, preparing, implementing and managing a nutritious and cost effective food service program that adheres to the BGCMC Nutrition Policy and USDA food safety regulations, policies and reporting. This includes ensuring a safe, positive, fun and impactful Clubhouse environment that engages hundreds of diverse youth, ages 6 to 18 years old.
KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES :
Program Management
  • Manage food service's ordering, serving, evaluation and continuous renewal of healthy, well balanced menus.
  • Calculates recipe quantities for the purpose of assuring adequate meals to meet the needs of youth, without creating excess waste.
  • Manage nutrition grants administration that includes planning, evaluation and reporting of grant deliverables.
  • Set, manage and achieve goals related to nutrition programming with the Program Services Leadership Team.
  • Manage program budget and tracking of expenditures. Monitor monthly expenses to ensure they are within budget projections.
  • Analyze information, prepare reports and deliver presentations on findings, recommendations and actions taken for key stakeholders.
  • Ensure implementation of Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County Nutrition policy.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for USDA Program; manage and implement the USDA Supper and Summer Food Service Programs, including program implementation, reporting and audits.
  • Supervise nutrition staff through daily preparation, meal service, and clean up.
  • Ensure quality meals and service by monitoring and evaluating program goals.
  • Support authorized Club's food service requests for various program events, staff training, receptions, special events, etc.
  • Procure food and nutrition program related supplies; maintain supply inventory, ensuring supply is adequate and that it meets all program requirements.
  • Maintain oversight of inventory and ensure it is stewarded for intended use.
Program Staff Supervision and Development & Performance Evaluation
  • Hire, lead and manage the performance of staff and Volunteers,
  • Ensure staff and volunteers training in food service, presentation standards, and food service safety.
  • Monitor progress of weekly, monthly & quarterly goals with guidance and direction from the Unit Director.
  • Create and manage nutrition staff schedules within budget.
  • Complete and oversee performance reviews for nutrition staff.
  • Ensure ongoing training and professional development opportunities for nutrition staff.
Safety Management
  • Maintain safety and order in all aspects of the nutrition department operations (including field trips and youth services delivered at non-BGCMC locations) as well as compliance to policy and standard operating procedures.
  • Report nutrition department issues regarding safety, maintenance, cooking and refrigeration equipment and technology.
  • Ensure the nutrition program space is well lit, clean, sanitized, well ventilated, aesthetically decorated, and reflective of monthly themes; equipment is in good condition, program supplies are adequate and the environment is safe and inviting for all members.
  • Maintain record keeping and reporting of activities and events, logging of daily meal count, notable achievements and any problems/issues.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety policies and practices including safe lifting and emergency procedures
Collateral Duties
  • Perform other duties as assigned in alignment with fulfilling the primary function of the position.
Community Relations
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to achieve program goals.
  • Establish, maintain and cultivate relationships with local vendors.
  • Collaborate in organization-wide special events and fundraisers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors.
  • Must be able to walk, stand, push, pull, balance, stoop and kneel.
Requirements
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience
  • Degree from an accredited college or related field certification or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two years management experience, with demonstrated success at leading teams.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in cafeteria style food service.
  • Minimum 3 years USDA meal program experience.
  • Tech savvy, including proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite and Internet for maximum productivity.
Additional requirements:
  • Ability to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions.
  • Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: health standards and hazards; quantity cooking; and safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to perform work in a kitchen and office setting as well as in a fast paced, interactive environment.
  • Travel between Club sites is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and driving history that would not disqualify you from driving BGCMCs vehicles
Highly desirable qualifications:
  • Bilingual English and Spanish
  • First Aid & CPR Certification
  • Cultural competence, ability to work with a diverse youth and people
COMPENSATION:
Salary begins at $26.47 to $27.81 based on experience. Paid benefits package including paid vacation, paid sick leave, plus California Healthy Workplace Healthy Family sick leave, medical, vision, dental, life and disability insurance, pension and 403(b) plan investment options. Professional development opportunities are available contingent upon funding and approval. This position is classified as non-exempt and as such is eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
