JOB DESCRIPTION:

TEEN ASSISTANT– TALENT/PHOENIX BRANCH

Looking for an organized, energetic and motivated individual to assist in leading our Talent Teen Program after-school and during the summer for youth in grades 6 - 8. The main responsibilities are to help plan and implement FUN, education-based activities that engage young people, while being a positive role model. From career-pathway exploration to socio-emotional wellness to safe and fun teen nights - providing a positive place for teens is the priority! In addition, this position will help recruit teens and market Club activities during school time (at the schools), build relationships with schools and local partners, and promoting Club activities and events across social media platforms.

The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Rogue Valley is to provide year-round positive, fun and safe places for all youth, helping them build self-esteem and develop skills necessary to make right choices, becoming responsible and productive citizens.

Part-Time hourly position

Pay: $15.00 - $16.00/hour (depending on experience and bilingual ability)

Schedule: Must be available Monday - Friday from 2:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. for our after-school program. Additional evening hours to include Friday Teen Nights and extended high school club hours (adjusting hours to be available until 9:30pm) and occasional weekend hours.

*Summer program hours of operation are 7:45 a.m.- 5:15 p.m. Occasional non-school days, training opportunities and Friday evenings provide different/additional hours.

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY: A primary responsibility of all persons assigned to this job title is to support the mission of the Club and to promote positive child andcustomer relations. Passion for helping teens succeed in all areas of life. Healthy energy to keep pace with teens. Good problem-solving skills. Ability to supervise and engage youth in grades 6th–8th and to work closely with other youth development professionals.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

· Maintain a positive and safe environment.

· Create and maintain positive relationships with teens in grades 6th – 8th; as well as maintain a safe and well-supervised environment.

· Recruit teens in grades 6th - 8th for after-school and summer activities; including recruitment activities during school time and promoting Club activities and events across social media platforms.

· Assist with planning, implementation and managing overall teen programs focusing on building a sense of belonging, socio-emotional wellness, academic success, leadership and career pathway exploration.

· Promote career pathway exploration by planning and taking teens on field trips and guided tours to businesses, colleges and trade schools.

· Understand and implement organizational policies, procedures, and goals.

· Assist with marketing Club programs to the community and schools.

· Collaborate with schools, school administration, and local community agencies to enhance opportunities for Club Members.

· Assist with planning, management and supervision of Teen Night activities and events.

· Assist with managing facility and maintaining a clean, organized and safe Club space.

KEY ROLES:

· Assist with planning and overseeing the administration of programs and activities that prepare youth for success in middle school, high school and beyond; support youth; meet assessment standards; incorporate key elements of positive youth development

· Assist with establishing program objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission.

· Provide quality year-round Club programs that have measurable results.

· Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in all program areas.

· Demonstrate leadership to assure appropriate conduct, safety, and development of members.

· Ensure Club is meeting organization’s membership and attendance goals for grant funded programs through proper record keeping and program results.

· Recruit teens in grades 6th - 8th for after-school and summer activities through activities during school time and effective use of social media platforms.

· Generate excitement for career pathway exploration by planning and taking teens on field trips and guided tours to businesses, colleges and trade schools.

· Assist with the control of program and activity expenditures within approved budget.

· Assist with the planning and implementing monthly Teen Nights to engage local youth.

· Assist with outreach and building partnerships with local schools, businesses, and other organizations.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

· May oversee special programs and /or events, and/or participate in the implementation of other Club and organizational activities as necessary.

· May consult with parents concerning member or Club issues.

· Will assist with handling record keeping and appropriate summary reports for grants supporting Club programs.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

· Four-year degree in related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent work experience in youth program management.

· At least 2 years in directly related work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of teens in a leadership role.

· Preferred 25 years of age with a Valid Driver’s license, a clean driving record and willingness to obtain drive certificate for passenger vans and buses, and/or CDL (bus endorsement), in order to meet driving policy requirements for teen field trips.

· Passion for helping teens succeed in all areas of life.

· Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

· Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.

· Prevention education and classroom management experience is preferred.

· Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities. Evidence of collaboration with outside entities.

· Mandatory CPR, CDL and First Aid Certifications within 90 days of employment.

· Ability to pass background check and drug test.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

· Maintain close daily contact with Club staff, Club members, school personnel and volunteers to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions and advise/counsel.

· Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, members’ parents, and others.

· This is a physical job, working in all weather conditions and noise levels. With regular scheduled field trips to supervise teens.
