Job Description

The Manager of External Affairs is responsible for leading integrated strategic initiatives, managing external community relationships and overseeing the organization’s strategic planning and dashboard. The Manager of External Affairs is responsible for building strong relationships internally with staff and leaders throughout BGCAZ and externally with partner organizations, local and national legislative representatives, municipalities and school districts. Will be responsible for driving the expansion and the enrichment of BGCAZ’s programs by developing and driving its fundraising strategy, representing BGCAZ to external audiences and engaging a broad spectrum of funder and community leaders in BGCAZ’s mission. Working directly with the Vice President of External Affairs and Business Development, the Manager of External Affairs uses a variety of systems and tools to help the branches solve complex problems, leverage business acumen, strategy and data to help steer conversations and decision making across the organization.

JOB RESPONSBILITIES

  • Manages partnerships with public municipalities, school districts, collective impact groups and public officials, ensuring that BGCAZ is connected to the Greater Phoenix, Arizona Alliance and other statewide youth communities
  • Collaborates with team members across the organization to identify and pursue business planning and strategies for the branches
  • Works closely with the Vice President of External Affairs and Business Development to represent and ensure that BGCAZ’s voice is heard
  • Serves as a conduit and advisor to assist BGCAZ’s Vice President of External Affairs and Business Development by leveraging the management of major projects, reducing roadblocks, increasing impact and accelerating progress
  • Identifies opportunities for leadership collaboration, assists leadership across the organization to create better alignment, internal and external coordination and unified approach to our community and partnerships, advocacy strategies and overall growth plan
  • Participates in the coordination and execution of various partner related special events
  • Takes the lead in renewal opportunities and works toward engaging partners on a deeper level of investment and engagement
  • Serves as a liaison to “Connect” – the young professional Board of BGCAZ to build partnerships to ensue new and additional corporate activation accounts
  • Encourages BGCAZ “Rules of Engagement” and incorporates into day to day interactions with staff

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE and CERTIFICATION

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience with proven success in effectively interacting and managing community stakeholders
  • Must have and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY and SKILLS

  • Ability to analyze and report on government/community funding and trends
  • Ability to build relationships and influence others by interacting with a broad range of stakeholders with different interests and needs
  • Must possess an entrepreneurial work style and the ability to drive innovative thinking
  • Ability to interact effectively and communicate in writing and orally with a variety of youth, staff, volunteers, families, Board members and various community members
  • Working knowledge of federal and state laws and company policies and procedures
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft software, including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Ability to articulate for giving, serve as an ambassador, engage in relationship building and promote philanthropy

WORKING CONDITIONS and DRIVING

  • Travel between BGCAZ Branches, schools and community sites is required
  • Work is performed in our Program Services Center-Administrative offices and within the local community
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours are required
