Boys & Girls Clubs of Utah County is Hiring a STEM Specialist, Belknap Elementary Near Beaver, UT

The AmeriCorps STEM Specialist will spend about 10-15 hours each week assisting with hands-on STEM education and assisting with other activities at the Boys & Girls Club located at Belknap Elementary. Schedules are available Monday-Thursday afternoons between approximately 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm from now until May (school year).

The individual selected for this position will serve as an AmeriCorps member. AmeriCorps is a national service opportunity, not just a regular job. You will be expected to complete a minimum of 100 service hours throughout your term. This is a great opportunity to add service and hands-on teaching experience to your resume! This is an especially great opportunity for someone who is pursuing an education or STEM-related career.

Compensation Details:

This position will provide a living allowance of $1,400 paid over the term of service. The $1,400 stipend will be split up and paid on a bi-weekly (every two weeks) basis during your term of service. NOTE: You will not be paid hourly.

In addition, an Education Award of $388.03 will be awarded upon successful completion. The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award is a post-service benefit received by individuals who complete terms of national service in approved AmeriCorps programs. This award (similar to a Pell Grant) can be used to repay qualified student loans and to pay current educational expenses at eligible institutions.

Between the living stipend (paid directly to you) and the Education Award (paid to your institution on your behalf), your potential total compensation is $1,788.03.

Detailed Responsibilities:

Work with small groups of students, instruct with experiential learning methods, lead STEM lessons during the time allocated each week, other classroom activities, clubs, and other duties as needed.

Assist in classrooms by providing support surrounding STEM curriculum for youth.

Maintain records of lesson plans, and track data for the number of students served

Complete weekly timesheets, and a monthly report

Attend monthly training meetings and any regular staff meetings at the service site

Conduct pre and post-surveys of all youth served within the first and final months of service.

Participate in MLK Day of Service and National AmeriCorps Service Week

Assess and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and previously used curricula.

Qualifications:

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, be a United States citizen or permanent resident, and meet the requirements set by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Individuals selected for these positions must pass a background check. Preference will be given to individuals with educational or work experience related to science, technology, engineering, math, teaching, and/or education.
