Roles And Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-admission screenings and schedule assessments promptly.
- Collaborate closely with the business office, nursing, clinical staff, and external parties to ensure timely patient admissions.
- Refer inquiries to appropriate agencies and community resources when facility assistance or admission is not suitable.
- Provide information and referral services for both internal and external customers.
- Interview patients, family members, and/or collateral sources to ensure intake criteria are met, reviewing prospective admissions against approved criteria, policies, and procedures.
- Present clinical information to a member of the medical staff for approval of intake.
- Provide crisis intervention services if required.
- Verify insurance coverage upon intake and ensure accurate documentation of all admissions processes.
- Maintain ongoing communication with referral sources regarding the status of referred patients and provide education about available services.
- Provide clerical support to admissions processes, including collating admission folders, auditing patient charts, and monitoring patients in internal waiting areas.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of one year of experience in healthcare admissions, preferably in mental health or substance abuse settings.
- Experience in patient assessment, referral, treatment planning, and communication with external review organizations or similar entities.
