About Us: Bradken is a global leader in the design, manufacture, and supply of high-quality steel and alloy castings. Our Specialty Product Division is seeking a Aftercast Manager to join our team.
Position Overview: As a Aftercast Manager based at our Atchison, KS locationyou will be responsible for providing guidance and support to optimize plant efficiency and effectiveness and establish continuous improvements of quality systems and manufacturing processes to reduce costs.
The Aftercast Manager will manage the Aftercast operations by coordinating the activities within the Clean department including Aftercast planning, coordination and control of manufacturing processes, along with safety and sustainability of Aftercast operations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the planning, control and development of production processes to ensure they are implemented in a safe, environmentally responsible and efficient manner
  • Ensure daily plans are implemented and followed to meet production requirements
  • Report adverse quality trends, taking corrective action as necessary to eliminate any potential quality losses through the analysis of work operations, quality records and customer complaints
  • Responsible for identifying, implementing and managing continuous improvement projects
  • Maintaining plant equipment and work practices in accordance with standard operating procedures to ensure compliance with company and Statutory regulations
  • Develop communications vertically across departments to achieve a continuous improvement culture within the plant
  • Responsible for daily, weekly and monthly reporting
  • Mentor and assist Team Leaders in completing JSA’s, together with writing and reviewing work instructions
  • Mentor subordinates in your area and facilitate on the job training
  • Undertake Work Area Safety Interactions to ensure safe behaviours across all areas
  • Ensure process assessments are conducted, where appropriate, including MSDS reviews, Ergonomic and Manual Handling etc
  • Identify training opportunities and requirements for your subordinates and coordinate with HR/ Training
  • Ensure housekeeping audits are carried out as per the schedule
  • Provide assistance and operational support to any capital expansions or process improvement strategies
  • Liaise with maintenance department to prioritize maintenance activities both preventative and breakdown
  • Communication of factors that may influence cost or spending levels.
  • Raise minor capex for foundry improvements
  • Oversee the management of raw materials and consumables
  • Create and provide forecast for consumable and material suppliers
Key Technical Criteria:
Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Metallurgy, Engineering, Foundry industrial technology or a combination of relevant industry experience
  • Metal trade-based education background (welding, arcing, technical or similar) preferred
  • Frontline Leadership qualification desirable
Experience:
  • Background in leading Continuous Improvement/Operational Excellence initiatives
  • Experience working within a heavy manufacturing or foundry environment
  • Extensive experience in a production supervisory position
  • Experience of managing teams is essential
  • Experience at developing and executing short and long-term production plans
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of production and manufacturing processes and techniques
  • Knowledge of raw materials, machines and tools
  • Knowledge of quality systems and standards
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards and compliance
  • Knowledge of process improvement techniques would be desirable
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
