Job Description

Job Description

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence.

Each year, 40,000 people in the U.S. die from gun violence. We can change that. No organization has a more comprehensive and systematic approach to ending America’s gun violence epidemic. They say it can't be done. But we know Americans can do anything. Even end this epidemic of gun violence. For we are more powerful than any problem when we work as one. Now is the time to unite people, from coast to coast, young and old, liberal and conservative, fed up and fired up, and free our country from what is killing us. It's in our hands.

Job Summary:

The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, the nation's leading gun violence prevention organization, has an exciting opening for a creative and relationship-focused Major Gifts Officer who is based on the West Coast (CA, WA, OR). Joining a well-established development team, this individual will manage an active portfolio of major donors with the directive to expand Brady’s presence on the West Coast. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned officer with a history of closing six to seven figure gifts and with knowledge of philanthropy in key areas surrounding Los Angeles, the Bay Area and Pacific Northwest.

This role is fully remote, but candidates must reside on the West Coast.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of 50 - 100 major donors soliciting and stewarding gifts of $10,000 from individuals, families, and family foundations to reach their maximum giving potential

  • Develop a robust pipeline of prospects utilizing prospect research existing database list, lapsed donors, new leads, follow up and pipeline development efforts

  • Collaborate with other members of the major gifts team, and the Chief Development & Engagement Officer, as well as with Brady’s Regional Leadership Councils to engage major donors in gun violence prevention advocacy and deepen relationships

  • Meet annual fundraising goals and metrics for success in the region including face to face solicitations

  • Prepare donor briefings and correspondence. Work closely with the support team on donor proposals and reports, including writing and editing materials as required.

  • Travel up to 50% within the West Coast depending on location; and likely travel 2-3 times per year to DC for broader organizational meetings and events

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 5 years of experience in fundraising or a closely related area, involving the solicitation of major gifts

  • Bachelors degree preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to create and cultivate relationships with a proven track record of success soliciting 6-7 figure gifts and a strong knowledge of fundraising best practices

  • Superior communication skills and interpersonal skills are essential to share the vision, mission and programs of Brady

  • Strong team player with attention to detail and follow through on all tasks; ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and collaborate with transparency within the development team and across the organization

  • Experience in ROI Solutions or similar CRM that maintains donor records

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite and G Suite

  • Ability to use discretion and sensitivity in handling highly confidential donor information and proprietary data

  • Event planning and management skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where change is constant
