Brazoria County is Hiring a Deputy Constable Near Brazoria, TX

Under general supervision, performs law enforcement activities of a specified precinct within the County. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. This is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents of this class; employees may be assigned duties which are not listed below; reasonable accommodations will be made as required. Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. The job description does not constitute an employment agreement and is subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Performs patrols of designated areas of the precinct; performs traffic control as necessary;
  • Transports offenders when circumstances dictate; processes documentation regarding transportation;
  • Performs warrant service; contacts defendants to advise them of the status of outstanding traffic warrants;
  • Provides judicial officer duties and court room security for the Justice of the Peace courts; maintains order, makes necessary arrests in court; provides assistance to attorneys, plaintiffs and defendants within the court;
  • Receives civil and criminal documents from courts, law firms and the general public; performs data entry prior to service of such documents;
  • Executes civil process issued by the courts;
  • Conducts property seizures with property owners, attorneys, landlords and other parties;
  • Conducts traffic stops; issues citations and/or warnings; assists stranded motorists;
  • Assists in emergency and disaster situations, under direction of Emergency Management;
  • Serves as a liaison with local, state and federal law enforcement and/or criminal justice agencies;
  • Works with school districts and civic groups as necessary;
  • Interviews witnesses, victims and suspects;
  • Serves subpoenas, writs and arrest warrants;
  • Receives criminal warrants from the courts and apprehends/assists in the apprehension of named suspects;
  • Performs research of various databases for current addresses of violators who have outstanding warrants; mails warrant notification cards;
  • Prepares and submits requested reports of activities;
  • Oversees routine vehicle and equipment maintenance, radio and computer programming or updates;
  • Applies for grants as requested;
  • Serves on special committees or task forces as assigned;
  • Organizes and prepares community events;
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Experience and Training Guidelines:
 Current in mandated TCOLE training; High school diploma or equivalent; and Five years of law enforcement experience; OR, An acceptable combination of education, training and experience as determined by the Constable and Human Resources. Knowledge of:
  • Principles and practices of civil and criminal law enforcement;
  • Texas criminal, civil and transportation codes;
  • Criminal case reporting and preparation methods and techniques;
  • Interview and interrogation techniques;
  • Investigative practices and procedures;
  • Basic first aid and emergency responder medical practices and techniques;
  • Mediation, intervention, and de-escalation methods;
  • Legal principles, practices, and procedures regarding the court system;
  • Legal terminology;
  • County geography;
  • General knowledge of procedures and regulations covering specific areas of assignment. 
Skill in:
  • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with elected officials, supervisors, employees, external public agencies and organizations, judges, attorneys, crime victims, witnesses, family members of defendants, jurors and the general public;
  • Using initiative, discretion and decision making within established procedures, guidelines and rules;
  • Solving problems, collecting data, establishing facts and drawing valid conclusions;
  • Providing efficient customer service;
  • Operating a personal computer, various software applications, and job-related electronics;
  • Firearms proficiency.
LICENSE & CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
 Texas Peace Officer license;

 Compliance with Section 217 of the Texas Administrative Code; TCIC/NCIC certification; Valid Texas Driver’s License; You will be required to complete a 20-hour Civil Process course after being hired.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
 21 years of age or older;

 Possess a valid and current Texas driver license; Vision that is no more than 20/200 vision, and correctable to 20/20; No past convictions for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI or DUI); No more than three (3) moving violations within the last five (5) years; No felony convictions; No misdemeanor convictions for any offense involving moral turpitude or family violence; United States citizenship (born or naturalized); Honorable discharge from any past military enlistment; Be prepared to purchase regulation departmental uniforms (a minimum of $200); Operational cell phone. Good mental and physical health. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
 Work is typically performed in both indoor and outdoor work environments. May be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, potential physical harm, hazardous chemicals and infectious diseases. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds. May be required to climb ladders. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, run, climb, jump, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.DISCLAIMER
