The Development Director for Events Fundraising serves as part of the Southern and Central Ohio Chapter’s senior leadership team. The Director manages high-performing staff team who are responsible for driving the strategic direction, management, and financial growth for the Chapter’s Signature Events and Peer-to-Peer programs, including two (2) Galas, three (3) Breakthrough T1D One Walks, Breakthrough T1D Ride, Team Breakthrough T1D endurance events, and a variety of third-party programs.
In addition, this position is responsible for a variety of comprehensive development functions that correspond to the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects and donors. The Development Director maintains and grows a personal portfolio of business critical to the Chapter’s success.
This is a hybrid position in the Cincinnati area with a physical Chapter office in Kenwood, OH. A minimum of two days per week is required, with the ability to support and travel to Dayton and Columbus markets. The Development Director will play an integral role in the strategy and day-to-day execution of key integrated fundraising efforts for the Chapter with a focus on event oversight, and individual giving strategy and execution in the mid-level range. With a Chapter footprint that covers Northern Kentucky, Southern Ohio, Central Ohio, and West Central Ohio, our work must be prioritized and aligned with capacity and mission impact opportunities. The Chapter office is currently located in Kenwood, OH.
The Development Director leads a team of three (3) in-office and remote staff to oversee the Events Fundraising. This role will require comfort with, and confidence in, high-performance execution in a flexible in-office environment, with direct staff and supporter work accomplished through video teleconferencing and other digital means. Chapter Office visits and other in-person staff, volunteer and community gatherings throughout the Chapter geography may be required. On-site event participation will also be required as assigned.
Directly supervised by the Executive Director and in partnership with the Chapter Leadership Team, the Development Director will lead, manage, develop, and expand programs that build and strengthen links to potential and existing volunteers and donors and increase the Chapter’s revenue. This position will also ensure that the fundraising and non-fundraising priorities of Breakthrough T1D grow through increased corporate, family, volunteer, and other consistent involvement, organize, and manage appropriate committees with volunteers to expand fundraising and non-fundraising programs.
Responsibilities- Serves as a key member of the Chapter’s Executive leadership team, with primary responsibility for developing and implementing the Event Fundraising development strategy for the Chapter. Provides overall leadership, mentoring and operational direction to ensure cost-effective and efficient programs and operations.
- In partnership with Executive Leadership team, lead the development efforts of the two (2) annual One Walks (Columbus and Cincinnati), Cincinnatians of the Year Gala, Columbus Promise Ball including leadership recruitment and management, supporters, overall logistics, individual tickets, and auction.
- Partner with Executive Director and Market Director to create a stewardship plan to maintain key event supporters, both individual and Fund A Cure renewal.
- Oversee the growth of the strategic pipeline development within the Chapter as it applies to new and increased mid-level individual giving in a significant way.
- Supports annual budget development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of related areas of business.
- Working within Breakthrough T1D’s volunteer/staff partnership environment, support and maintain the vision, mission, priorities, and guiding principles of Breakthrough T1D.
- Lead and/or support the coordination of fundraising and non-fundraising efforts directed by your immediate supervisor, with strong matrix collaboration to all Chapter staff as well as the Regional and National resource teams, and volunteer leadership.
- Lead and/or support the development and execution of plans for assigned projects, including goals, objectives and follow-up.
- Participate in fundraising related meetings as assigned. Develop and assist in delivering presentations as requested.
- Lead and/or support fundraising and other mission activities designed to increase the identification, education, cultivation, and stewardship of fundraisers, donors, participants, and volunteers.
- Partner with the Executive Director, Market Director, Chapter staff and leadership volunteers to identify, solicit, recruit and develop additional committee leadership and volunteers, as assigned.
- Assume various responsibilities for other assigned activities in partnership with various Chapter Staff and under the direction of the Executive Director.
- Maintain standards for all programs established by the National Program Teams to ensure that the fundraising and program priorities of Breakthrough T1D are always incorporated.
- Ensure that event logistics and budget/timelines are met for each assigned activity.
- Comply with Breakthrough T1D’s financial policies and procedures. Maintain accurate and complete financial records as required.
- Perform data entry into the various project management platforms, as assigned, to ensure event information is current according to policies and standards.
- Plan and coordinate meetings, agendas, and activities as requested. Prepare PowerPoint presentations and meeting support materials as assigned.
- Respond to and follow through with all inquiries, needs, complaints and/or issues in a prompt and courteous manner.
- Ensure the confidentiality and security of all proprietary information.
- Maintain a solid understanding of BreakthroughT1D’s mission and research therapeutics.
- Perform all other responsibilities and projects as assigned by her/his immediate supervisor and/or senior management.
- Accountable for meeting deadlines, responding to volunteers, Executive Director, and other Chapter requests.
- Represents the best interests, professionalism and integrity of the chapter and Breakthrough T1D in all activities and relationships through a unified message of the Breakthrough T1D mission and a commitment to organizational standards.
Qualifications- 2 years direct supervisory responsibility.
- 6 years fundraising experience with demonstrated success in generating revenue.
- Familiarity with volunteer/staff partnerships in achieving desired outcomes.
- Superior active listening, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to create and manage processes that enhance efficiency of staff work while allowing for donor-centricity.
- Record of success and growth in a fundraising leadership role, particularly in large-scale events (walk, gala, etc.) and large gifts. Strong skills in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and ongoing stewardship of major individual donors and corporate partners.
- Solid understanding of budgets and profit and loss statements.
- Ability to develop and successfully maintain an extensive network of strategic relationships (donors, volunteers, community partners, etc.) in the local area.
- Ability to inspire, lead, and motivate a team; develop and sustain an inclusive and respectful work environment through all interactions with staff and volunteers.
- Strong active listening, observation, analytical, and problem recognition and solving skills, with the ability to interface with all levels of staff and volunteers
- Understanding of computer systems and databases. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint), Salesforce, and event management systems (Greater Giving and Luminate Online preferred)
- Ability to be a passionate spokesperson/representative of Breakthrough T1D's mission. High level of comfort communicating complex information (e.g. Breakthrough T1D's research, goals, etc.) to a wide range of audiences.
- Ability to develop and successfully maintain an extensive network of strategic relationships (donors, volunteers, community partners, etc.) in the local area.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Existing knowledge of and network of relationships in the territory preferred.
- Highly efficient in time management and can meet deadlines under pressure.
- Proficiency in non-profit fiscal and strategic management preferred.
- Self-starter, who can achieve individual objectives while working as a team player to support those of the entire chapter team.
- Works well within a matrix structure where more than one individual is providing guidance, feedback, counsel, and support.
- Travel within the Chapter is 20-30%.
