SummaryThis is an opportunity to join a strong Chapter team and work closely with staff partners, local leadership, regional and national colleagues, and an outstanding group of volunteers to increase the reach and impact of the Greater New England Chapter. The Chapter includes a staff team of thirteen (13), a Community Board of Directors, and volunteer leaders who are actively engaged and passionate supporters of Breakthrough T1D. Our Chapter proudly serves Maine, eastern Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
The Development Director, Peer-to-Peer (P2P) programs serves as part of the Greater New England Chapter’s senior leadership team and leads a staff of three (3) direct reports to oversee the efforts for the Breakthrough T1D P2P programs. The Director is responsible for driving the strategic direction, management, and financial growth for the Chapter’s four (4) Breakthrough T1D One Walks, Breakthrough T1D Ride, local and national Team Breakthrough T1D endurance events including the Boston Marathon and Reach the Beach, and a variety of DIY programs. The Director cultivates and stewards relationships with key donors and volunteers across all P2P programs, with a particular focus on corporate sponsorship and participation to drive engagement and fundraising. The Director, in partnership with the staff team, is responsible for building a pipeline for and securing strong and effective volunteer leadership for all P2P programs. Under the direction of the Executive Director, and in partnership with the National P2P Teams and volunteer leadership, the Director oversees the chapter’s P2P program net fundraising goal ($1.5 million for FY25), managing expenses and forecasting revenue.
In addition, this position is responsible for a variety of comprehensive development functions that correspond to the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects and donors. The Development Director maintains and grows a personal portfolio of business critical to the Chapter’s success.
This position is hybrid, with a minimum of two days in the Wellesley, MA office. The position must be based within the chapter footprint.
Responsibilities
  • Serves as a key member of the Chapter’s leadership team, with primary responsibility in developing and implementing the P2P program development strategy for the Chapter.
  • Formulates, implements, and leads strategies and tactics for Chapter fundraising and development activities in the P2P program specifically to sustain continued growth, maximum penetration of core market areas and opportunities for expansion where appropriate.
  • Supervises a team of three direct reports, contributing to staffing decisions and evaluations. Provides ongoing growth and development by motivating, developing, and directing staff as they work to achieve and Breakthrough T1D chapter goals.
  • Collaborates with an outstanding Chapter team as well as national staff resources to ensure core fundraising revenue targets are achieved.
  • Manages a portfolio of constituents and leads efforts for high-level donor cultivation and engagement plans that result in giving and Chapter engagement.
  • Identifies and develops new opportunities with both existing donors as well as new prospects and provides excellent donor relationship management to key chapter stakeholders.
  • Provides fundraising coaching expertise to assigned portfolio focusing on fundraising best practices and tactics.
  • Meets registration and fundraising goals for Breakthrough T1D One Walk, Breakthrough T1D Ride, Team Breakthrough T1D, and DIY events.
  • Partners with Executive Director and Development Director, Signature Events, to direct the efforts of the Corporate Development Committee.
  • Avidly utilizes CRM platform (Salesforce) to track portfolio and moves management progress.
  • Provides frequent financial input including budget building, updates, forecasts, and revenue reports.
  • Recruits, manages, and continually develops donors and volunteers. Provides leadership, cultivation, acknowledgement, material support, and assistance in building and implementing annual plans around volunteer leadership.
  • Develops and actively manages a communications plan to engage and steward all participants utilizing in-person meetings, email, phone calls, texting, handwritten notes, etc.
  • Identifies, builds, and stewards relationships with community, philanthropic and corporate leaders as an integral part of volunteer and donor prospect development.
  • Adheres to internal engagement policies and guidelines as outlined in the National Corporate Partner Handbook.
  • Partners with chapter staff to develop and deliver a Partnership Impact Report outlining all received benefits/deliverables.
  • Supports and maintains the vision, mission, priorities, and values of Breakthrough T1D.
  • Communicates and sets expectations clearly and appropriately.
  • Establishes and maintains departmental and organization-wide policies and procedures and supports regional and national directives.
  • Represents the best interests, professionalism, and integrity of Breakthrough T1D in all activities and relationships through a unified message of the Breakthrough T1D mission and a commitment to organizational standards and leadership by personal example.
  • Supports other fundraising events, chapter activities, and programs as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Seven (7) years of professional fundraising experience, with a clear record of success in fundraising and relationship management in a complex, mission-driven organization; three or more (3 ) years in a supervisory capacity. Passion for grassroots fundraising preferred.
  • College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Track record of success in donor development, donor stewardship, and soliciting and closing corporate gifts.
  • Experienced with staff and volunteer management, including committee development and succession planning.
  • Demonstrated experience with fundraising and event management including budgeting and forecasting.
  • Team player who can interface with all levels of staff and volunteers; high capacity to assess the value, importance, and/or quality of activities and people.
  • Strong understanding of the moves management process.
  • Ability to inspire, lead and motivate a team; lead by example as a player-coach.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and relationship building skills. Ability to build rapport with participants, donors, volunteers, and the public.
  • Ability to develop, maintain and utilize relationships. Capability to leverage relationships and negotiate agreements. Familiarity with volunteer/staff partnerships.
  • Effectively multi-tasks, establishes priorities and works in a fast-paced environment. Highly efficient in time management and can meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Ability to work on projects independently and have strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong public speaking/presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint) and Salesforce or other database platforms (Luminate Online and Greater Giving preferred).
  • Enjoys working on a team and is adaptable.
  • Ability to travel within the statewide chapter footprint required.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required to support all Chapter events. Occasional overnight travel as needed.
