Days: 197Supervised ByChief Academic OfficerFlsaExemptDate RevisedApril 2023Primary PurposeUnder the direction of the Chief Academic Officer, the Instructional Specialist will support and assist classroom teachers in implementing the district curriculum. The Instructional Specialist will assist with the implementation of best practices, reflective sessions following observations of teachers, and the organization and delivery of professional development activities. Along with District and Campus Administration, the Instructional Specialist will analyze student data and create and institute an academic achievement plan for the campus. The Instructional Specialist will support Team Facilitators and PLC groups and provide demonstration lessons, coaching and team teaching to career teachers. Instructional Specialist will help develop quality teachers by demonstrating that only a quality teacher, more than any other factor, enables students to overcome obstacles and erase any achievement gap. Instructional Specialist may also partner with the administrations and/or teachers for effective parent communication.Qualifications (Experience/Education/Certification)
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Master Degree in Curriculum and Instruction
  • Trained in Dyslexia Intervention Services
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned
  • At least five years of successful teaching as measured by performance evaluations.
  • At least three years in an instructional leadership role
  • Demonstrated expertise in content, curriculum development, student learning, data analysis, mentoring, and professional development as demonstrated by an advanced degree, advanced training, use of technology for managing student information, and student accountability.
  • Knowledge of state content standards use and application.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional practices in content areas and assessments.
  • Instructional expertise demonstrated through model teaching, team teaching, and/or student achievement gains.
  • Ability to conduct classroom demonstrations and external observations.
  • Ability to instruct and communicate (both verbally and in writing) effectively.
  • Ability to successfully interact with students, professional employees, parents, and district patrons.
  • Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
Major Responsibilities Professional Development:
  • Provide staff development and coaching assistance to prepare teachers for the rigor and pace of the curriculum.
  • Assist teachers with the development of instructional practices that produce proficient learners.
  • Provide formal and informal staff development related to both research and practices for classroom teachers and other appropriate staff members.
  • Provide instructional interventions with proven results, and facilitate teacher proficiency with these new strategies through classroom-based follow-up.
  • Ensure that the progression of teacher skill development is aligned with changing student learning needs.
  • Participate in the district staff development program.
  • Demonstrate interest in professional improvement. Develop needed professional skills appropriate to the job assignment.
Collaboration And Communication
  • Conduct focused classroom demonstration lessons, observations, and provide specific feedback to teachers.
  • Support and collaborate with site administrators and external evaluators.
  • Meet regularly with individual teachers and teams to collaborate and support the delivery of instruction.
  • Provide appropriate follow-up in the classroom; monitor all team members and assist them in achieving BISD goals.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Assist teachers in teaching all grade level core content standards to students in preparation for district and state assessments.
Curriculum
  • Support the district and campus in the implementation of the district-approved curriculum.
  • Help prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Assist in the selection of instructional materials for the campus.
  • Model district-supported instructional strategies/lessons based on district curriculum.
  • Advise campus administration in planning, implementing, and evaluating interventions and extensions for individual students.
Data
  • Execute and prepare such forms, records, and reports as may be called for in the management of programs.
  • Analyze student data to identify student learning goals; develop a school academic achievement plan; monitor and analyze the district’s assessment plan, assess teacher evaluation results; and maintain inter-rater reliability.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Analyze data and facilitate discussions about student/campus/district data with campus leadership and content/grade level teams.
Technology
  • Employ the use of technologies in the teaching/learning process
  • Work closely with campus and district Digital Learning Coordinator on integrating technology into lesson designs. Together they take the first steps of developing Project Based Learning in the classroom.
  • Understand the digital learner and promotes and models digital learning.
  • Provide leadership and technical expertise to campus-level administration, teachers, and students for effective use of instructional technology.
