POSITION OVERVIEW
Located along the Space Coast in Melbourne, Florida, the Brevard Zoo is an AZA-accredited facility with a diverse collection of over 900 animals representing nearly 200 species. It is also home to the Sea Turtle Healing Center for rehabilitation of wild marine turtles. Brevard Zoo is well-known for its strong conservation ethic and unique attractions, such as kayaking through the Africa area, giraffe feeding, and rhinoceros and various other animal encounters.
The Conservation Office Administrator is responsible for performing multiple administrative functions related to Brevard Zoo’s Conservation Department. These tasks include, but are not limited to, data entry and compilation, website updates, processing requests for events/speaking opportunities/volunteer groups, answering phones, monitoring multiple email accounts, assisting with permitting documents, producing charts and graphs, communicating with the public, working with volunteers, and serving as the liaison between the department and outside groups. This position spends most days at the Restore Our Shores (ROS) offsite office.
QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION AND RELEVANT EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
REQUIRED:
· High School Diploma or equivalent
· At least 2 years in an administrative role
· At least 2 years data entry experience
· At least 2 years customer service experience
· Experience working with volunteers
· Experience working with excel
PREFERRED/DESIRED:
· Associate’s degree
· Office management experience
· Experience with project tracking software
· Experience bulk mailing
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
·Oversee all administrative tasks for the conservation team
·Data entry and compilation for a variety of conservation projects
·Track and report on data, including number of volunteers, volunteer events, volunteer hours, restoration metrics, expenses, etc., as requested
·Update content on the Restore Our Shores website, as needed
·Provide updates to volunteers and donors, as needed
·Organize and maintain electronic files, including documents and photos
·Draft newsletters weekly, and monthly, to be shared with staff, volunteers, and the community
·Serve as the initial point of contact for the public, through email, phone, and in-person interactions
·Track supply acquisition and usage to maintain inventory
· Receive speaker requests/event opportunities and schedule based on staff availability
· Serve as Safety Committee representative for the Conservation Department
· Monitor multiple email accounts and respond to inquiries in a timely manner
·Communicate details of volunteer opportunities with groups and the public, serving as the point of contact for the ROS team
· Oversee volunteer events and workshops, as needed
·Participate in conservation program field work as needed, to maintain a strong understanding of the Zoo’s projects
· Perform any charting and basic mapping needs for the conservation team
· Assist with producing documents for permitting and maintain homeowner contacts
· Maintain and update the project tracking software used by the ROS team
·Effectively communicate Brevard Zoo’s conservation messages while promoting conservation and community involvement
· Assist with on-site activities at the Zoo, as needed
· Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
(L) Light work
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects. If the use of arm/leg controls require exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated as light work.
POTENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS/HAZARDS:
This position will spend approximately 90% of their time inside, and about 10% of their time outside, and this schedule is dependent on season, weather, and specific yearly conservation project goals. While inside, this position will be primarily sedentary, working at a computer and on a phone. Driving a company vehicle is required. While outside, which will be required to assist with volunteer programs and to maintain a strong understanding of conservation programs, the ability to work for extended periods of time in Florida weather is required. Associated hazards include but are not limited to: extreme heat and humidity, rain, mosquitos, stingrays, etc. For both inside and outside work, ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift is required, as well as finger dexterity, and the ability to talk, hear, and see.
WORK SCHEDULE:
40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, weekends and holidays as needed.
TRAVEL:
Local travel may be required for purchasing supplies and for participating in conservation program deliverables but is done in work vehicles and does not require overnight travel.
