EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTIONIST

JOB DESCRIPTION

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Educational certification by the state of Alabama.
  • Previous work with public school systems preferred.
  • Correct English usage, spelling grammar, and punctuation; the general needs and behavior of children; effective classroom techniques.
  • Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Have and maintain knowledge of local, state, and national policies especially those that impact education. Ability to use technology in assigned areas of responsibility. Ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences in both written and oral forms. Ability to facilitate groups to consensus. Knowledge of conflict resolution strategies. Knowledge of effective school concepts and principles. Ability to balance several job functions at one time and work under a heavy workload. Ability to work cooperatively with other departments and staff. Ability to analyze statistical data for trends and standard performance in various programs and to develop strategies. Has a strong work ethic including regular, punctual attendance. Has the ability to work harmoniously with fellow employees.

REPORTS TO: Building-Level Administrators, System-Level Administrators

JOB GOAL

To provide interventions for students of all learning levels under the supervision of the principal or her/his designee. To provide each student with individually tailored help, counsel, and learning experience he/she needs to make progress toward educational goals established.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists the principal or her/his designee in determining specific learning problems, skill deficiencies, or social adjustment difficulties of students and initiates remediation programs in these areas.
  • Provides students with tutoring for other classes.
  • Assists the principal in evaluating each student in terms of initial needs and progress toward remediation.
  • Works in conjunction with the principal to prepare progress reports and year-end evaluations, administering pre-intervention evaluations and post-intervention evaluations.
  • Makes available a wide range of teaching materials and equipment, including reading materials at many levels, instructional strategies, resource materials, and the like.
  • Counsels students in identifying and dealing with their academic, social, and discipline challenges.
  • Works closely with teachers to help the students maintain satisfactory classwork, homework, and behavior.
  • Performs basic attendance accounting and similar record-keeping functions pertinent to the program.
  • Work effectively and consult/collaborate with schools, community organizations, government agencies, parents, students and/or staff.
  • Assess student needs for mental health or related services.
  • Maintain confidentiality on issues concerning program and staff.
  • Participate, coordinate, or conduct a variety of meetings, staff development, committees, trainings, workshops, and/or conferences to present materials and information concerning mental/behavioral health services.
  • Provides assessments to determine the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students for the purpose of pinpointing the source of school or parental concerns, coordinates effective intervention strategies that will lead the students to be more successful in school.
  • Serves on a multidisciplinary team(s) to address the needs of students, including students from special populations, to ensure data-informed implementation of appropriate services, programming, and/or placement.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and punctual records as required by law, district policy, and administrative directions.
  • Consults with administrators and appropriate school employees to ensure student success and assists in the structure to remove barriers to learning.
  • Consults with parents regarding ways they can assist student(s) in becoming successful in and out of school.
  • Communicate with service agencies, state and federal agencies, and ancillary services to enhance the educational effectiveness of the Brewton City School System.
  • Determine what methods can be utilized to enable families/students to make school attendance a top priority throughout the system.
  • Work closely with all educational components and special services available in the school system – general education, Special Education, all Title programs, School Resource Officers, sports, and medical-related services.
  • Develop and provide training and educational programs that address the goals and missions of the school system.
  • Serves as liaison between school, families, and community agencies on a continuous basis.
  • Utilizes community resources to effectively serve family and student needs.
  • Assists the school in planning programs that prevent, reduce, or alleviate situations that interfere with the learning process of students.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • 9-month schedule – 4 hours/day – part time
  • No benefits
